Theatrical Outfit, located at the Balzer Theater at Herren's on Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta, continues its 2018-2019 Season of Beauty with the Atlanta premiere of The Pitmen Painters, British writer Lee Hall's (Billy Elliot) dramatization of William Feaver's book about a real-life group of English miners from the Geordie region who become unexpected stars of the high society art circles of London between the World Wars. Both comedic and stirring, The Pitmen Painters, directed by Adam Koplan (Artistic Director of Flying Carpet Theatre Company and director of The Outfit's 2018 hit Perfect Arrangement), features an all-Atlanta ensemble and runs February 27 - March 24, 2019.

Inspired by true events and based on the best-selling Norwegian novel by Gaute Heivoll, Ashes is an emotional thriller that has a shocking twist and examines the fire burning in the heart of every human being. Playing at the Center for Puppetry Arts from March 1-3, the acclaimed production will be performed by Plexus Polaire of France and Norway.

Washington, dramaturg Dr. Angela Farr Schiller, and Atlanta Distinguished Professor Emerita of Southern Studies Dr. Theda Perdue in a discussion on the performance of race through the context of history and the Obie Award-winning play An Octoroon by playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. The New York Times praises An Octoroon as "This decade's most eloquent theatrical statement on race." In it, Jacobs-Jenkins reframes the 19th century melodrama, The Octoroon by Dion Boucicault, blending theatrical styles and 21st century cultural politics in an exploration of the art form's interplay with race and identity.
