Symphony San Jose To Present Beethoven’s PASTORALE With Dvořák And Bates
Program includes Carnival Overture, Philharmonia Fantastique, and Symphony No. 6 at the California Theatre.
Symphony San Jose will present BEETHOVEN’S PASTORALE on May 9 and 10, 2026 at the California Theatre in downtown San Jose. The program will feature works by Antonín Dvořák, Mason Bates, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
The concert will open with Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, followed by Bates’ Philharmonia Fantastique: The Making of the Orchestra, a multimedia concerto incorporating animated film. The program concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 (“Pastorale”), a work inspired by nature and rural life.
The performances will be conducted by Vinay Parameswaran, leading Symphony San Jose.

“Music Notes,” a pre-concert talk featuring discussion and guest insights, will take place one hour prior to each performance and is free to ticket holders. A special Mother’s Day element will be included at the May 10 performance.
