On Saturday, March 31, 2012, Fourth Arts Block (FABnyc) will gather gently used materials from arts organizations and other donors throughout the East Village/LES for Load OUT!, a one-of-a-kind re-use & repurposing event taking place at 19 East 3rd Street from 11AM-3PM.

Artists and art students are invited to take home any of the costumes, props, and furniture they need for their next artistic endeavor. In response to interest from the community, neighbors and non-artists can also attend the event for a small entrance fee of $5 and are also welcome to take away materials free of charge. Remaining materials will be recycled by GrowNYC, WeRecycle! and the NYC Department of Sanitation.

Additionally, FABnyc will support responsible recycling by co-sponsoring a community e-waste and clothing recycling drop-off, free and open for everyone, 11AM-3PM. WeRecycle! will be on hand to collect e-waste, and GrowNYC will collect and sort clothing and textiles. A list of accepted donations is available at www.fabnyc.org/loadout.php.

Started in 2010, Load OUT! establishes a local distribution spot for theaters to share materials they no longer need with other artists, while providing free responsible recycling opportunities to the community at large. In 2011, FABnyc helped divert over 9 tons of materials from the waste stream. Load OUT! has also inspired numerous artists in the creation of new projects.

For questions or to donate materials to the artist swap, contact Katherine Barton, Sustainability Intern at 212.228.4670 or katherine@fabnyc.org.
