In Class Journal Blog after 1st Open Viewpoints Session in Acting: about 12:45 this afternoon at Akani.

We've given each of our students their own pens and journals, and time to reflect on the work we are doing in our classes through free-writing exercises. After a 40 minute continuous open Viewpoint session with the kids in acting class today, we asked them to journal about their experience. We use the time to write in our journals as well. This is my entry from the first block of classes today:

The open Viewpoint work we just did in our acting class with the students blew my mind and pushed the boundaries of anything I had ever imagined we could share and create with these kids, most of whom hold English as a second if not third language, especially in such a short amount of time. Their willingness to participate, create, receive and impulsively play along with whatever we ask of them is brilliantly inspiring. Shapes, movements, lines, curves, speeds, intentions and specific, impulsive choices were flying around the room. I think our students are comfortable enough with us now to start opening up and trusting us with their voice- and it's an incredibly moving experience to play and create together- to remain open and aware. To imagine with each other.
