Ailey Extension Offers Workshops For Dancers, Teachers, and Choreographers 6/7-18

The Ailey Extension announces its 2010 summer workshops, where dancers from all over the world will study at Ailey's home - the nation's largest building dedicated to dance. Beginning June 1st, The Ailey Extension will offer an array of exciting opportunities to study with a series of world renowned teachers and choreographers. From performing workshops with master ballet instructor Kat Wildish to choreographic workshops with Elisa Monte Dance, The Ailey Extension invites teachers and dancers of all levels to hone and expand their skill. All workshops are located at The Ailey Studios in The Joan Weill Center for Dance (405 West 55th Street).
Workshops include:Ailey Experience Workshop (for dancers ages 12 & up): August 2-6, 2010, learn what it takes to be a student at Ailey from top instructors in various fields such as ballet, Horton, contemporary, hip-hop, West African and more, at NYC's premiere dance studios with floor to ceiling windows allowing a view of the New York City skyline. Classes will be led by distinguished Ailey faculty members including Madame Darvash, Tweetie, Milton Myers, David Marquez, among others. Participants will meet company members from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and engage in discussions with dance industry experts. This workshop is also offered in a three-day abridged version, from June 18-20, 2010.Leap ‘N Learn New York City Teacher Workshop: June 26 & 27, 2010, teachers will enhance their ability to teach young dancers ages 3 - 6 years with Leap 'N Learn, a comprehensive early childhood dance curriculum. This workshop will be led by the creators of Leap 'N Learn - Beverly F. Spell and Annie Spell, Ph.D.
