The Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q will hit another Broadway milestone when it plays its 2000th performance at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) on Tuesday, June 3rd at 8 p.m. AVENUE Q opened at the Golden Theatre on July 31, 2003.

Now the 25th longest running show in Broadway history (!) and the 7th longest-running musical of those currently playing, AVENUE Q -- with its cast comprised of people and puppets -- arrives at the 2000th performance mark, having already surpassed the original runs of "South Pacific" (1,925) and "Pippin" (1,944). Ahead of AVENUE Q are the original runs of "Oklahoma" (2,212) and "Man of La Mancha" (2,328).

About AVENUE Q's 2000th performance, one of the show's most beloved stars, the Republican investment banker and puppet extraordinaire ROD remarks, "I think those of us who live and work on 'The Ave' always new we would reach this fabulous milestone. People love our show and we love doing it! In fact, 2000 almost equals the number of chorus boys who have visited my dressing room since AVENUE Q landed on Broadway. You wouldn't believe how many unmatched leg warmers I have stacked in the corner."

ROD's luscious and morals-free co-star LUCY adds, "2000 is impressive, yeah, but it's just half the number of sailors who dropped into my dressing room -- during Fleet Week alone."

While AVENUE Q -- which won three Tony Awards including Best Musical in 2004 -- continues its celebrated run on Broadway, the musical also enjoys an enormously successful U.S. national tour and international engagement in London's West End.

A musical about 20-somethings who move to the city with big dreams and tiny bank accounts, AVENUE Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore. The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman,Jeffrey Seller, The Vineyard Theatre and The New Group. Based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, AVENUE Q has musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
