According to The New York Daily News, Grey Gardens star Matt Cavenaugh will join the star-studded cast of the Broadway-bound musical A Catered Affair.

"Word is the handsome singer has been cast as the groom in A Catered Affair, the musical that Harvey Fierstein is bringing to Broadway next spring," states the article.  Cavenaugh's casting has not been confirmed.

A Catered Affair, the new musical with book by four-time Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein, score by John Bucchino and directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle.  Opening night has officially been set for Thursday, April 17, 2008 at a Jujamcyn Theater to-be-announced.  Preview performances will begin on Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

If cast, he would join previously announced stars Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Harvey Fierstein and Leslie Kritzer, as well as Philip Hoffman, Katie Klaus, Heather MacRae, Lori Wilner and Kristine Zbornik.

Prior to Broadway, A Catered Affair will inaugurate the 2007-8 Season at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre (performances begin September 20, 2007), according to producer Jordan Roth (Vice President, Jujamcyn Theaters).

A Catered Affair is "set in The Bronx, 1953.  Funny, heartbreaking and oh so human, the musical reveals relationships strained to their limits when a couple must decide whether to spend their life savings on a family business or to launch their only daughter's marriage with a lavish catered affair.  Harvey Fierstein's book and John Bucchino's score seize the opportunity to explore the meaning of family and the need for love, both new and reawakened."

A Catered Affair will be produced on Broadway by Jujamcyn Theaters, Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson and Daryl Roth.  The musical is based on the Turner Entertainment motion picture distributed by Warner Brothers and written by Gore Vidal, and the original teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky.

Cavenaugh, who plays Joe Kennedy Jr. in Grey Gardens, previously appeared on Broadway in Urban Cowboy.  His other stage credits include The Pirates of Penzance, Babes in Arms, A Little Night Music and Ragtime.  He has been seen on TV in "One Life to Live" and "As the World Turns."

Grey Gardens closes on July 29th.
