Scottsdale Musical Theater Company Opens CABARET Tonight

Scottsdale Musical Theater Company has completed casting for its June production of Cabaret to be presented at Tempe Center for the Arts.

The iconic roles of the Emcee and Sally Bowles will be played by Matt Newhard and Michele Kahn, respectively. Matt Newhard is a four time AriZoni Award winner and is returning again after his critically acclaimed performance as Harold Hill in SMTC's recent The Music Man. Michele Kahn brings her New York and international tour experience back toSMTC, having played the title role of Millie in SMTC's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie last year.

Rounding out the cast are Petey Swartz (Fraulien Schneider), Ron Jennings (Herr Schultz), Matthew Earnest (Cliff Bradshaw), AriZoni Award nominee Hector Coris (Ernst Ludwig) and Lauren Berkley (Fraulein Kost). The Kit Kat Girls will be played by Madison Ottinger, Ashley Nebeker, CJ Carvelli, Devra Hock, Kelsey Metz, Jessica Nelson and Nicole Kalani with Alexus Poulette, Kimi Cunningham, Sandra Foster Williams, Sky Christian Donovan, Addam Donada, Roy Thielen, Jordan Canning, Todd Corbeil and Thom Radke performing in the ensemble.

In addition to direction by David Hock, choreography by Manhattan Dance Project founder Bill Hotaling and musical direction by Christie McKibben, the creative team consists of ASU scenic design faculty member Rachel Gordon Smallwood, Celebrity Theatre lighting designer Bret Reese and Ken Olash for sound design. Paul Snatic of Scottsdale's Mardi Gras Costumes will design and provide costumes.

Continuing its tradition of 'bringing Broadway's favorites back to life', Scottsdale Musical Theater Company prides itself on presenting affordable theatrical productions of well-known Broadway shows in their entire, original Broadway versions, featuring the best of Phoenix area talent along with a full live orchestra so that these shows can be heard and appreciated as they were originally meant to be.

SMTC's production of Kander and Ebb's classic Cabaret - at their new home, Tempe Center for the Arts (700 W. Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe AZ 85281) - will be tonight, June 27th - 29th.
