The Washington Stage Guild starts its 'Pearl Anniversary' season with a remount of one of America's favorite holiday stories in It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play. It's Christmas Eve, 1946, and we are the studio audience for a local radio station as its cast of voice actors and one very busy sound effects man broadcast the beloved tale of George Bailey and his encounter with Clarence, his guardian angel. Tamara Tunie to Bring Jazz Act LEGENDS FROM THE 'BURGH to City Theatre

Pittsburgh native and Law & Order: SVU star, Tamara Tunie returns to her roots, performing songs by hometown legends. Her band includes Roger Humphries on drums, Jeff Grubbs on bass, and Max Leake conducting and playing piano. Ms. Tunie, a Tony and Drama Desk Award winner has performed Legends from the 'Burgh on tour and in New York City to packed houses and critical acclaim. For theatre lovers in our area, we always look forward to what our theatre companies have in store for us in their upcoming seasons. We look to see if there are any trends that stand out to us as audience members. We also see growth in many companies with each new season of shows. Anyone that's been following DC theatre for a while will notice how things have changed in the last twenty or thirty years. One of the biggest examples of this would be the clean up and revitalization of 14th Street, which had direct implications for Studio Theatre and Source. (more...)

PlayMakers Repertory Company Presents TWELFTH NIGHT

Inspired by the photographic works of Slim Aarons, Jerry Ruiz's conception of "Twelfth Night" will transport audiences to a mid-20th century Illyria where jet-setting socialites encounter mistaken identities and gender masquerades, ensuring that no one really knows who they are, or what they want. A shipwrecked Viola disguises herself as Cesario, a page in the service of Duke Orsino. Viola loves Orsino, but Orsino loves Lady Olivia, who in turn falls for "Cesario" when "he" is sent by the Duke to court her. Turning this comic love triangle even further on its side is the reappearance of Viola's twin brother Sebastian, presumed dead after the shipwreck. Add in a fool named Feste and a drunkard named Belch for a fast-paced feast for the senses. (more...)

HEISENBERG to Be Presented at Burning Coal Theatre in December

Burning Coal Theatre Company will present the southeastern premiere of Simon Stephens' Heisenberg, a comedy/drama about two mismatched souls who collide. The play will run January 19 - 21, 26-28  and  February 2 - 4, 2017 at 7:30 pm and January 22, 29 and February 5, 2017 at 2 pm at Burning Coal's Murphey School Auditorium, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.  Tickets are $25 regular admission or $20 for seniors (65+) or $15 for students, teachers and active military.
