Berkeley Rep Extends TREASURE ISLAND

?Due to an overwhelming positive response from audiences, the swashbuckling adventure, Treasure Island, will continue to set sail on the Hispaniola at Berkeley Rep. The theatre has announced that the latest adventure from Mary Zimmerman will extend for an additional two weeks. Originally scheduled to close on June 5, the critically acclaimed play will run through Sunday, June 19. Starting today, Friday May 6 at noon, tickets for the added 16 performances can be purchased online at berkeleyrep.org or by phone at 510 647.2949. (more...)

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the West Coast premiere of Treasure Island by Tony Award-winning director Mary Zimmerman. Critically praised as "nothing short of sublime" (Chicago-Sun Times), and "Zimmerman remains a superior storyteller " (Chicago Tribune), Treasure Island, a co-production with Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre Company, is a glorious adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's most beloved novel. Virginia Repertory Theatre to Present Tennessee Williams' SUMMER AND SMOKE, 4/22-5/15

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Summer and Smoke by Tennessee Williams at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, April 22 with a preview on Thursday, April 21. The production runs through May 15, 2016. Set in Mississippi at the dawn of the 20th century, the story centers on a young woman's sexual awareness as it evolves from chaste modesty to desire. First staged on Broadway in 1948, the show was not well received. A 1952 revival at Circle in the Square Theatre featuring a legendary performance by Geraldine Page received rave reviews and was credited with beginning the Off-Broadway movement. Stu Falconer, one of six New York actors to form Barksdale Theatre (now Virginia Rep) in 1953, left his job as the stage manager of that Circle in the Square production to move to Virginia. Merrimack Repertory Theatre to Close Season with HOME OF THE BRAVE

Merrimack Repertory Theatre will close out its season in spectacular fashion with the world premiere of Lila Rose Kaplan's farce 'Home of the Brave.' The hilarious play follows senator Bernadette Spence (played by Boston favorite Karen MacDonald) as she desperately works to persuade her family to support her run for the Presidency. Loosely inspired by Moliere's 'Tartuffe,' 'Home of the Brave' is an old-fashioned comedy for new-fashioned times, wholeheartedly embracing sheer absurdity, shameless fun, and actors running/climbing/sliding all over the place.
