This summer, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from Shakespeare in Central Park to Chekhov on the Staten Island Ferry. The directors concluded their class this week by fully producing five new short plays in and under the High Line Park in Manhattan.

Rep Stage Opens 19th Season With OR, 8/31-9/18

Rep Stage, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), opens its 19th season with Liz Duffy Adams' farcical comedy 'Or,'. The free love of the '60s - the 1660s - is riotously explored in this recent Off-Broadway sleeper hit based on real-life playwright Aphra Behn's life as an undercover spy and her romantic romps through Restoration England in order to gain entry into the boys' playwriting club. Michael Stebbins, Rep Stage's producing artistic director, who directed last season's critically acclaimed 'Two by J.M.Barrie: The New Word and The Old Lady Shows Her Medals,' returns to direct this regional premiere. Jason Odell Williams ('Two by J.M. Barrie...'), Christine Demuth ('Two by J.M. Barrie...' and 'The Glass Menagerie') and Broadway alum Charlotte Cohn star.

Created by and featuring Jaimie Carswell and Nancy Trotter and directed by Pablo Ibarluzea, CIRQUE DE LÉGUME begins performances on Tuesday, September 6 for a limited engagement through Sunday, October 2. Press opening is Sunday, September 11 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday at 8:30 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM and 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Andre De Shields to Direct Crossroads Theatre's AINT MISBEHAVIN

This summer is a busy one for award-winning Broadway star André De Shields. He has been nominated as 'Best Leading Actor' for his title role in Charles Smith's new play The Gospel According to James, produced last Spring at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater in Chicago, Dennis Zacek, Artistic Director. Based on the doubling lynching depicted in the infamous Lawrence Beitler photograph, this drama involves the fictional meeting between a witness and a survivor of that seminal moment in Indiana history. The play garnered four Black Theater Alliance Award nods, including Best Direction for director, Chuck Smith and Best Writing for playwright, Charles Smith. The play was originally commissioned by and experienced its world premiere at The Indiana Repertory Theatre in Indianapolis.

In der Jurysitzung die Ende Juni 2011 stattfand, wurde die Dramaturgin und Regisseurin Bettina Hering zur neuen Künstlerischen Leiterin des Landestheaters Niederösterreich gewählt. Ihr Vertrag beginnt am 1. 9. 2012 und läuft mit einer Option auf Verlängerung bis 31. Mai 2016. Somit ist die Spielzeit 2012/13 die erste, die Bettina Hering als Künstlerische Leiterin des Landestheaters Niederösterreich gestalten wird.
