BWW Review: Joey Hood Delivers a Breathtaking Tour de Force Performance in W
by Frank Benge - Aug 23, 2016

W is a new play that is a translation of Woyzeck which was written by Georg Buchner. This new translation by John Hood has been adapted by Zachary Christman. Buchner's original work remained incomplete at the time of his death. It has been posthumously 'finished' by multiple authors, editors and translators. Woyzeck is one of the most performed and influential plays in German theatre. It is believed Buchner began writing the play in 1836 and it remained in a fragmentary state when he died in 1837. Woyzeck was first published in 1879, some 42 years later, in a heavily reworked version by Karl Emil Franzos. It would be another 34 years before the play was first performed on November 8, 1913 at the Residenztheater in Munich. Considered both naturalistic and expressionistic in tone, it is loosely based on the true story of Johann Christian Woyzeck, a Leipzig wigmaker who later became a soldier. In 1821, Woyzeck murdered Christiane Woost, a widow with whom he had been living, in a jealous rage. He was later publicly beheaded. (more...)

Milford Arts Council, in association with Pantochino Productions Inc. announce the first show of their Nite Spot Nights series of cabaret entertainment for the coming season.  Amy Lynn and the Honey Men, formerly Amy Lynn and the Gunshow, is a seven-piece machine that blows glitter all over the traditional memphis-motown soul/rock style. At the controls is Amy Lynn, a vocal powerhouse whose unique flair of quirky, down-to-earth humor countervails against the serious musicianship of her band's bari sax, tenor sax, trumpet, keys, bass, and drums. Both together and apart, members of band draw on a range of experience playing for acts such as Roberta Flack, Spoon, Bette Midler, Red Baraat, St. Vincent, The National, Yo La Tengo, Loser's Lounge, Duffy, Antibalas, and the Radio City Orchestra.   (more...)

BWW Review: BATTERY DANCE FESTIVAL Continues to Enthrall
by Juan Michael Porter II - Aug 22, 2016

'Lovely, never, never change. Keep your breathless charm. Won't you please arrange it? 'Cause I love you.' Those glorious Dorothy Fields penned lyrics to Jerome Kern's evergreen 'The Way You Look Tonight' bubbled through my head during Kilowatts Dance Theatre's joyful performance of Jaime Shannon's 'Flights and Follys'. It was just a couple of swells dancing with their lady-friends to the type of tunes that Gram and Pops listened to when new; back when 'it weren't no sin' to revel in the unabashed sunshine of life. How wonderful to visit those times again. (more...)

The work, at once humorous and incisively critical of authority, whether governmental or historic, encapsulates the underlying spirit of the diverse practices and approaches that comprise "Moscow Conceptualism." For the second summer in a row, Pseudonym Productions has given Central Florida something special; not to mention something surprising, something a little bit sexy, and something altogether sinister. BWW Blog: Hannah Love - Summer of Studying, Sweating, and Singing
by Guest Blogger: Hannah Love - Aug 18, 2016

Summer is officially over for me, and I'm immersed into the school year again. I'm already working on a school production of the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and my classes are already piling on the homework, tests, and projects. Somehow, I'm not fazed by this mass chaos. It probably is related to the fact that I did not take a break this summer. Summer classes filled my summer until the second week of July (don't worry, I took these classes to lighten my junior year), babysitting was a routine job for me, and I was in a production of Shrek the Musical at a local community theatre.  (more...)
