As I am graduating from Shenandoah Conservatory in the next couple weeks, I have been reflecting on the programs and faculty members that have positively impacted me during my time here, and ironically I have learned  so much about myself and my craft outside the classroom. I credit a lot of my artistic growth from spending time in the dance studio, practice Rooms, and rehearsal hall during late nights after classes have ended, collaborating with my peers. I think that when going into any industry it is important to have a wide understanding of communication and how to effectively talk to your teammates in order to achieve a goal. (more...)

Singkuwenta (which means 50 in Filipino), Philippine Educational Theater Association's (PETA) 50th-anniversary concert (April 7, 8) proves that this theater company is showing no signs of aging, and still is as relevant and viable as ever. For a two-night anniversary concert, the creative team crafted an efficient way to look back at 50 years' worth of stories of struggles and triumphs, yet not falling into the predictable route of showcasing just about every song they have in their catalog. Brooklyn Museum and Bard Announce American Decorative Arts Curatorial Program

The Brooklyn Museum and Bard Graduate Center announced today a collaborative, multiphase project aimed at rethinking the presentation and study of American decorative arts. Starting in fall 2017, Bard Graduate Center faculty and students and Brooklyn Museum curators will come together as a think tank to examine the organization, display, and interpretation of the Brooklyn Museum's extensive collection of American decorative arts. This will launch a series of courses on American decorative arts at the Brooklyn Museum, led by Kevin Stayton, Curator Emeritus, along with Barry Harwood, Curator of Decorative Arts, among others. The course, open to all students enrolled in Bard Graduate Center's M.A. and Ph.D. programs in decorative arts, design history, or material culture, will serially study parts of the Museum's collection. As its outcome the course will lead to the redesign of the gallery display of the decorative arts collection.  (more...)
