The Playground Theatre Opens its Doors to Local Community 6/17

On June 17, between 11am and 1.00pm, London's newest theatre is hosting an open morning for residents and community groups in the area.  The Playground Theatre, which is set to become the only theatre in North Kensington, will open its doors to offer a sneak preview of what will be on offer when the first production is staged there this autumn. Antonia Bennett, daughter of Tony Bennett and accomplished vocalist in her own right, is a lifelong performer. Since she "could walk and talk," according to her bio, Bennett has been performing with artists of legendary status: Rosemary Clooney, Regis Philbin, and, of course, her father. For the last 10 years, she has served as Tony's opening act in live shows and, in addition, has performed duets with him, including on his holiday album, A SWINGIN' CHRISTMAS. On May 23, Bennett will make her Cafe Carlyle debut in New York with a set comprised of selections from the American Songbook, a perfect fit for her inherited charm and too-cool demeanor, paired with her uniquely coy voice. Artists in Partnership (A.I.P.) and the Long Beach Public Library proudly present the 15th Annual Long Beach, L.I. Cabaret Festival from Wednesday, May 17 through May 21 (Sunday), 2017.  All performances are free and open to the public, held in the library's second-floor performance space, 111 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, NY, a few blocks from the Long Island Railroad stop, making it accessible for out-of-towners traveling by rail. This year's theme is "Cabaret… at Any Age" and that is underscored by the inclusion of three impressive and serious-minded singers aged 9, almost 13, and recently turned 16; two acclaimed vocalists in their early 20s; five over the age of 60 (two of them actually over 80!); and one ageless local favorite returnee.  The   eclectic roster features singers and musicians of different stripes who have won acclaim and awards.   (more...)

For eight seasons, over seven-and-a-half years, he has led the International Order of Sodomites---the IOS for short---as the Chairman of the "centuries-old organization promoting the lives and legacies of the LGBTQIA community."
