Billed as "the 90s" musical, 2 Become 1 is a show based around one girl's break-up and the effort of her friends to get her back out on the dating scene. Littered with period references and pop classics, this is a relatively fun, feel-good hour.

The song list for 2 Become 1 is nothing short of exceptional. From Shania classics to TLC's "No Scrubs" and Britney to All Saints, 90s music is more than covered. There were a number of other touches that I enjoyed as well: butterfly hair clips, dance routines, Mizz magazine and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I did notice a couple of slightly out of place items, such as the use of mobile phones.

Another thing that bothered me was the representation of the women in the show. When they go speed dating they are obsessed with finding their friend and themselves a man. It's cringeworthy the way they act and one character in particular has the role of the "bunny boiler", talking weddings and babies on the first date. Another was cast as a "sex addict" and was propositioning every man she met within 30 seconds. These elements really let the production down, as they come across as tacky.

2 Become 1 is a show that will hook in the masses and give them a reasonably entertaining performance.

2 Become 1 runs at Underbelly until 28 August.
