Shakespeare in the Park's Coriolanus officially opened last night, August 5! Let's see what the critics are saying...

It was forty years ago when Shakespeare in the Park's Delacorte Theater was last invaded by The Bard's CORIOLANUS, but perhaps The Public's politically-minded artistic director Oskar Eustis thought this would be a good time to present a drama about an inexperienced politician who initially gains favor on a wave of populism, only to suffer downfall when his disdain for those outside of his privileged class is exposed.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge just started previews of Sea Wall/A Life at Broadway's Hudson Theatre, and the duo recently took to 45th Street to help cover the back of the theatre with artwork from artist JR and his global art project known as the Inside Out Project. The Public Theater announced casting today for CORIOLANUS, the second show of The Public's 2019 Free Shakespeare in the Park season. Directed by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, the war-torn tragedy seen for the first time in 40 years, begins performances on Tuesday, July 16 and runs through Sunday, August 11, with an official press opening on Monday, August 5.

As previously announced, Sea Wall / A Life, which recently played to sold-out audiences at The Public Theater, will open on Broadway this summer. Now, stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge are asking fans to share their experiences at the show downtown in advance of it coming to Broadway.

Continuing its 40th Anniversary Season Second Stage Theater will soon present Christopher Shinn's DYING CITY. Directed by Chris Shinn, the production will feature Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Kelly) and Colin Woodell (Craig/Peter). DYING CITY will begin previews May 14, 2019 at the Tony Kiser Theater (305 West 43rd Street) and will officially open on June 3, 2019.

The Off-Broadway League today announced nominations in 19 categories - and bestowed one special award - for the 34th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. The Awards will be handed out on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts, beginning at 7:00pm EST. The Lucille Lortel Awards are produced by the Off-Broadway League by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Theatre Foundation. Additional support is provided by TDF. Beloved and celebrated entertainer, Wayne Brady, will emcee the ceremony.

According to the New York Times, Sea Wall / A LIFE, written by Simon Stephens and Nick Payne respectively and directed by Carrie Cracknell, will transfer to Broadway next season. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge, it will begin performances on July 26 and will open on August 8. The limited engagement will conclude on September 29.
