The 2022 NYC Indie Theatre Film Festival officially kicks off this Thursday, February 10, with an exclusive online screening of CYRANO and an online conversation with screenwriter Erica Schmidt. Erica is a Brooklyn-based playwright and theatre director (I Call My Brothers, New Ohio Theatre). Her acclaimed musical adaptation of CYRANO from director Joe Wright and starring Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Ben Mendelsohn, opens in theaters on February 25.

CYRANO Movie Musical Postpones U.K. Release Date

The film is the latest to postpone its release due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases due to the omicron variant. The film is still scheduled for a limited January 28 in the United States with a wider release following. With the new year just around the corner, many take time during the holiday season to reflect upon this past year as it comes to a close. Although 2021 has been challenging, it becomes clear that there is so much to be grateful for from vaccines to new movie musicals. While Broadway theaters began to open their doors, several streaming services opened their platforms to producing movie musicals. Unlike most years where few if any Broadway musicals were adapted into movies, 2021 was a year like no other with over ten musicals being created for the screen or being adapted from the stage to the screen. The Los Angeles premiere of Cyrano has been delayed due to COVID-19. While the screening will still occur, the red carpet and after party events have been postponed, along with any other upcoming live appearances from the cast. It is reported that a member of the film's inner circle has been exposed to COVID-19.

CYRANO Star Haley Bennett to Star in Topic's BROOD

Bennett, who stars as Roxanne in the new musical film adaption of Cyrano, will reunite with the film's producer Joe Wright for Brood. The film is based on the novel by Jackie Polzin. Bennett had initially discovered the novel, bringing it to producer Molly Asher and then Wright. A search for a director is currently underway.
