The Tony Awards Administration Committee met on August 27, 2020 to confirm the eligibility status of three Broadway productions for the 2020 Tony Awards®. This was the final time the Tony Awards Administration Committee met during the 2019-2020 season to decide the eligibility for the 74th Annual Tony Awards. The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.

As BroadwayWorld first reported last year, a new North American tour of Elton John and Tim Rice's Tony-winning Broadway smash Aida was previously set to premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse in 2021. Plans have changed however. BroadwayWorld has learned that the musical will no longer be a part of the Paper Mill season. A rep confirmed: 'We look forward to continuing our partnership with Disney on Aida and other projects in the future.'

The second opportunity for online audiences to enjoy some Royal Ballet repertoire over lockdown is Christopher Wheeldon's adaptation of The Winter's Tale. First premiering in 2014, it has proved popular with ballet fans and has subsequently been programmed in 2016 (this recording) and 2018.

Once in awhile a musical comes along that strikes the right chord. Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech pianist Marketa Irglova collaborated on a stage version of the 2007 film by John Carney. This deceptively simple story won a Tony Award for Best Book by Enda Walsh along with 7 more wins out of 11 Tony nominations in 2012, including Best Musical, Best Orchestration, and Best Direction. Its most familiar song, 'Falling Slowly,' won an Academy Award and the cast album captured a Grammy.

Producers Tom Kirdahy, Sonia Friedman Productions, and Hunter Arnold announced today that Matthew Lopez' THE INHERITANCE, directed by Stephen Daldry, will conclude its Broadway run on Sunday, March 15th. THE INHERITANCE began previews on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theater (243 West 47th street) on Friday, September 27th, 2019 and officially opened on Sunday, November 17th, 2019. At the conclusion of the run, the production will have played 46 previews (28 of The Inheritance and 18 of The Inheritance Part 2) and 138 performances (86 of The Inheritance and 52 of The Inheritance Part 2).
SING STREET Broadway Cast Recording Available for Pre-Order; Debut Single UP Now Available

Sony Masterworks Broadway has announced the release of Sing Street (ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING), an album of music from the musical adaptation of John Carney's indie hit film. Available for preorder now, the album will be released digitally Thursday, March 26, coinciding with the show's Broadway debut at the Lyceum Theatre that same evening, with the physical CD release to follow on Friday, April 17.

The Inheritance by Matthew Lopez has announced a new community engagement initiative: the 'Lobby Series.' For four consecutive weeks, beginning February 15, audience members with a ticket to The Inheritance PART 2 that evening are invited to join a moderated discussion in the lower lobby of the Barrymore Theatre at 6:00pm.
