Theatre Royal to Host Farewell to Jon Ewing, 28 April

One of theatres most distinguished actors and directors, Jon Ewing will receive a deserving theatrical farewell on Monday, 28 April at 12.30pm at one of Sydney's most renowned venues, the Theatre Royal.

Contributions from some of theatres finest including Nancye Hayes, Marina Prior, Todd McKenney, John O'May, Tony Sheldon, Tony Taylor, Maggie Dence, Sally Schinkel-Brown, Judy Ferris, Christopher Dawes and Guy Simpson will pay tribute to Jon and share their stories and memories with his family, loved ones and the industry he so loved.

Jon's most notable productions among many include Camelot, Cabaret, Tarantara! Tarantara!, The Threepenny Opera, Candide, The Venetian Twins, Sweeney Todd, Nicholas Nickleby and La Cage Au Folles¸ of which he was he won the Green Room Award for Male Actor in a Leading Role in 1985 for his portrayal of Albin..

His last major production was in the 1990's in The Phantom of the Opera as Monsieur Firmin. He directed Putting it Together, a collection of Sondheim's songs at Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne in 2003, after that Jon became happily retired from the industry.

Old friends of Jon and members of the theatre community are invited to celebrate his life and the many achievements in theatre, film and television.
