Christopher Sieber, Max von Essen & More Set for BROADWAY UNPLUGGED at Town Hall Today

Ten years ago, as a reaction to over-amplification of musicals, Scott Siegel had the crazy idea that there might be an audience for a concert of Broadway show tunes performed the way they used to be sung: without microphones. And Scott had the perfect place to try out his theory, the acoustically wonderful Town Hall on West 43rd St. With no money, but the support of a great many singers who wanted, literally, to be heard in a way that was no longer possible on Broadway, he launched the first Broadway Unplugged, boasting "Sound Design by God."

There was a New York Times feature article on the concert on the Friday before that first Monday performance. Amazingly, the show was already sold out when the paper hit the stands. Since then, Broadway Unplugged has become an annual event, now marching toward its historic tenth season.

As always, the stars come out in a big way for this concert. Scott is pleased to announce that with the concert still nearly two months from now, he can announce approximately half of the cast for this 10th Anniversary concert. So far, the concert will feature Tony Nominees, Liz Callaway, Christopher Sieber, Tonya Pinkins, Christiane Noll, and Barbara Walsh. Broadway Unplugged will also have the booming voice of William Michals who played Emile de Beque in the Lincoln Center production of South Pacific, the brilliant old school song and dance talents of Town Hall favorites Noah Racey and Jeffry Denman, and critically acclaimed opera star, John Easterlin. The concert will have bright tenors like Max von Essen (Evita), Bill Daugherty (Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?), powerful baritones like Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown), and a great young vocalist on the fast track stardom (and a Broadway by the Year favorite), Carole J. Bufford. With more to come...
