From the first notes of this spine-tingling, hypnotic album, it is evident that mysticism is inherent in Aly & Fila's music. As stirring as it is powerful, the album immediately transports the listener from the reality of the mundane world into a startlingly vibrant fantasyland where anything is possible.

The orchestral strings that open the album tug at one's heartstrings until the listener finds him or herself fighting back tears. The effect is not cheapened by the latest high-tech studio shortcuts but it is achieved because these producers understand human emotion better than most.

To describe Aly & Fila's The Chill Out (Armada Music) album as being cinematic is an understatement. Closing one's eyes, it's as though timeless landscapes trapped within one's own psyche are suddenly set free. Aly & Fila's album of downtempo, lush tunes is deceptively named The Chill Out. Indeed, the music is downtempo and not meant for peak-time on a packed dancefloor or a festival field, but it is anything but bland. Aly & Fila have an uncanny ability to reach deep within the listener's soul, and - no matter where the listener is from or of what nationality or cultural background - grab at the very essence of feeling.

Characterized by rich harmonies, thick pads, pulsating rhythms and exotic overtones crafted by deftly constructed minor-key chords and progressions, The Chill Out lingers with the listener long after the last note has evaporated. As expert producers, Aly & Fila paint sonic layer-upon-layer of melody, percussion, bass and sometimes vocals and effects with a control as delicate and muscular as to seem otherworldly. Exercising the finely honed timing earned after more than 10,000 hours performing in front of live audiences, Aly & Fila are able to utilize even silence to maximum effect. The restraint, patience and affection this album conveys is positively stunning.

Aly & Fila (real names: Aly Amr Fathalah and Fadi Wassef Naguib) are Egyptian electronic dance music (EDM) DJs and producers known for a style of electronic music known as uplifting trance. In the recording studio, they create enigmatic-sounding, evocative music characterized by resonant basslines, driving percussion and opulent harmonies for an uplifting trance sound that has come to be irresistible to their devoted global fanbase. Each year, Aly & Fila perform more than 100 live shows at leading nightclubs and festivals around the world; and their weekly radio show, Future Sound of Egypt (FSOE), is broadcast on terrestrial, satellite and Internet radio in more than 30 countries on 40 radio stations and counting.

At a time when electronic dance music has swept the U.S. and the world as the dominant cultural and musical force, it is a rare treat to listen to an album so shockingly good. If beauty has a sound...this is it.
