Em uma cerimônia no London Palladium apresentada por Gina e Mazz Murray, foram anunciados os vencedores do 26º Prêmio Anual WhatsOnStage em associação com a AudienceView — o único grande prêmio de teatro do Reino Unido decidido pelos próprios frequentadores de teatro.
Darius Thompson e Alex Wood do WhatsOnStage disseram hoje: "Os eleitores realmente cuidaram daquele Urso! A surpreendente quantidade de prêmios conquistados por Paddington solidificou firmemente sua posição como um novo favorito dos fãs no West End. De ursos a varandas – não é surpresa ver Rachel Zegler entre a lista estelar de vencedores após sua performance ao ar livre neste mesmo local no verão passado."
O aclamado Paddington The Musical triunfou, ganhando nove prêmios e igualando o recorde de mais vitórias na história do Prêmio WhatsOnStage com Harry Potter e a Criança Amaldiçoada e Miss Saigon — e o maior número para qualquer novo musical. A produção venceu como Melhor Novo Musical; Melhor Performance de Estreia Profissional para Timi Akinyosade; Melhor Direção para Luke Sheppard; Melhor Design de Cenário para Tom Pye; Melhor Design de Figurino para Gabriella Slade e Tahra Zafar — sendo esta última quem desenhou o urso; Melhor Design de Som para Gareth Owen; Melhor Design de Perucas, Cabelo e Maquiagem para Campbell Young Associates; Melhor Supervisão/Direção Musical para Matt Brind; e Melhor Direção de Casting para Natalie Gallacher CDG por Pippa Ailion e Natalie Gallacher Casting, Nick Hockaday e Annabelle Davis.
Evita foi o vencedor de cinco prêmios – Melhor Revival de Musical, Melhor Coreografia para Fabian Aloise, Melhor Iluminação para Jon Clark, Melhor Design de Vídeo para Jamie Lloyd, Nick Ward e David Anderson, e Rachel Zegler vencendo como Melhor Performer em um Musical. Zegler também venceu o prêmio de Melhor Evento de Concerto por Rachel Zegler: Live at The London Palladium.
Com o ano amplamente dominado pelos grandes musicais, Richard II no Bridge Theatre lidera as categorias de peças teatrais com duas vitórias - Jonathan Bailey venceu como Melhor Performer em uma Peça e a produção, Melhor Revival de Peça. Ganhando o prêmio de Melhor Nova Peça estão os favoritos do Prêmio WhatsOnStage Mischief por The Comedy About Spies de Henry Lewis e Henry Shields.
Completando as categorias de performance, Amber Davies vence como Melhor Performer Coadjuvante em um Musical, levando a única vitória para The Great Gatsby; Stephen Fry vence como Melhor Performer Coadjuvante em uma Peça por The Importance of Being Earnest, novamente sendo a única vitória para a produção multi-indicada; e Emma Kingston leva Melhor Substituição por Elphaba em Wicked.
Comemorando seu 40º ano, Les Misérables, o musical de maior duração do West End, vence o cobiçado prêmio de Melhor Show do West End. A Melhor Produção Regional vai para 13 Going on 30 The Musical no Opera House em Manchester; com a produção do Hope Mill de Young Frankenstein levando Melhor Produção de Estúdio.
