In a production that twists theatrical expectations, FROZEN, the controversial and award-winning play by Bryony Lavery, makes its Toronto debut. This environmental interpretation from director Andrew Freund, staged in a former coffin factory, travels to dark destinations after horrific circumstances unhinge three individuals.
Nancy retreats into a state of frozen hope after her ten-year-old daughter goes missing. Agnetha, the American academic, travels to England to research her thesis: "Serial Killing: A Forgiveable Act?" And then there's Ralph, a loner who seeks distraction from his base urges. FROZEN poetically entwines these three lives in this bold and intimate staging, in order to explore our human capacity for forgiveness, remorse and change after an act that seems to rule them out entirely. “Tragedy allows us to experience the darker things in life without having to live through them,” observes director Freund.
The play stars Lavetta Griffin as Nancy, Peter Nelson as Ralph and Lynn Zeelenberg as Agnetha with Alexander Saridag as the Guard. FROZEN is directed by Andrew Freund and stage managed by Mel Watkins. The design team includes settings by Natalia Tcherniak, costumes by Claire McMillan, lighting by Eric Sullivan and sound by Dave Fitzpatrick.
