WORLD PREMIERE inspired by activist David Kato and his opposition to the passage of Ugandas 2010 Kill the Gays bill. Dionysus on the Down Low follows LGBT activist David Okello as he flees Uganda in the wake of the proposed anti-homosexuality bill and takes shelter with Matthew Teitman, an LGBTQIA rights advocate with the ACLU. As Matthew helps David obtain political asylum, personal, political and sexual tensions rise as two men with disparate cultural values and desires struggle - sometimes explosively - to find common ground.
This is the first professional production of this play which was a finalist for The Playwrights Realm Scratchpad series in NYC, as well ad a semifinalist for ScreenCrafts Stage Play competition and The Eugene ONeill National Playwrights Conference.
