For many years, Andy Karl and Orfeh have been fixtures in the Broadway community, as well as one of its favorite showmances. Both have been a considerable presence in the theatre scene. Both bring a wry, adult, steady voice to an industry always seeking to anoint a new, fresh-from-U-Mich ing nue. And both are adept comedians who can also belt a note so big and beautiful that you might cry. All these traits and more are on display in Legally Bound, a live recording of the duo's 54 Below show.

In present-day North Florida, in a town called Starke, in a trailer park called 'Armadillo Acres' (though there are few armadillos and even fewer acres), there's a new tenant - and she's wreaking havoc all over Florida's most exclusive trailer park. New resident, Pippi, the stripper, is on the run, in her five-inch heels no less! Her arrival shakes up the otherwise hum-drum, daily existence of the trailer park residents. When Pippi comes between the Dr. Phil-loving agoraphobic Jeannie and her tollbooth-collector husband Norbert - Conflict shakes the dysfunctional bliss of the trailer park!

This was my first journey to Armadillo Acres and I find the community and its residents hard to aptly describe. Suffice it to say, Betsy Kelso and David Nehls wrote a campy musical melodrama with comedy broader than a double-wide, a plot lighter than an aluminum lawn chair, and stereotypes bolder than a flock of pink flamingos. To my admiration, Director/Choreographer, Courtney Oliver, Music Director, Renee Kemper and seven highly-talented performers, have managed to spin this rather flimsy material into solid, non-stop, over-the-top fun.
