In April, 54 Below will present some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and beyond, including Marilyn Maye, Claybourne Elder and many more. 

If “& Juliet” works at all, it’s because it commits to the premise without apology: a Shakespearean remix told through the lens of pop music, meta-theatre, and a general belief that stories never really die, they just get re-written. This touring production of the still-running Broadway musical leaned into this ethos with a cast that understood the assignment – treating the material with enough sincerity to make it land, but enough wryness to make it feel like commentary.

Forget what you knew. With a bold ambition to reimagine how we experience and interact with the city itself, Sydney Festival's 2022 line-up – the first helmed by artistic director Olivia Ansell – is set to explode onto (and into) the city's parks, pools, streets, stages and screens this summer.

I first discovered the Dollface Dames troupe of high-class, Burlesque entertainers in 2017 and have enjoyed their show-stopping style of entertainment at several venues around town since then. But 2020 brought on major changes for all in-person entertainment, so how have the Dollface Dames been keeping their unique brand of Burlesque available to audiences during the shutdown and what's next for them? To find out, I spoke with Lola Boutée who founded the group in 2008.

A collection of talented musicians will entertain with a variety of genres ranging from folk-rock to fiddle tunes to country and more. Patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for use on the grass.
