Zachary James To Make Metropolitan Opera Debut In AKHNATEN

Zachary James, bass, will be making his highly anticipated Metropolitan Opera debut on November 8 in the Met premiere of Philip Glass' Akhnaten. Described as a 'true stage animal' by Opera News, James is an international opera singer known for his 'huge, robust bass' which 'resonates with force' (Bach Track), 'tremendous power and presence' (The Arts Desk, London) and 'intrinsically beautiful', 'cavernous bass' with 'oomph and range' (Opera News). Akhnaten, directed by Phelim McDermott, runs November 8 through December 7. On November 23, the production will be part of the Met's 'Live in HD' movie theater transmission series and will be broadcast to cinemas across the world.

Lincoln Center Theater, under the direction of André Bishop, has announced it will produce a new musical during its 2019-2020 season. FLYING OVER SUNSET, with a book and direction by James Lapine, music by Tom Kitt, and lyrics by Michael Korie, will feature choreography by Michelle Dorrance, and will begin previews March 12, 2020 and open on Thursday, April 16, 2020 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 West 65 Street). Carmen Cusack, Harry Hadden-Paton and Tony Yazbeck will head the cast with additional casting to be announced at a later date.

On Sunday, June 30 LA's Next Great Stage Star 2019 Presented by Princess Cruises came to a conclusion on the Debbie Reynolds Mainstage of the El Portal Theatre in NoHo. After a 90-minute program in which this year's 12 contestants* gave 150% to their monologues and songs from Broadway shows, eight contestants were eliminated and the top four finalists were selected. There was a problem in that in collecting the ballots, there was only a majority for 2 contestants. Audience and judges were alerted, time was alloted and ballots were collected once more to pick the other 2 contestants. This added a good half hour to the proceedings. The Black Keys Release 9th Studio Album 'Let's Rock' Today

Today, The Black Keys release their ninth studio album, “Let's Rock,” via Easy Eye SoundNonesuch Records. The record is a return to the straightforward rock of the singerguitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney's early days as a band. Auerbach says, “When we're together we are The Black Keys, that's where that real magic is, and always has been since we were sixteen.” “Let's Rock” has already received critical praise, with Paste saying, “If you want something you can crank up at backyard barbecues or in the car with the windows down, well, The Black Keys have two words for you, and they're in the album title,” and the Wall Street Journal adding, “The Black Keys have mastered the form of guitar-based music, and the craft at work on these dozen songs is something to behold.” The band also is featured in this Sunday's New York Times Arts & Leisure section and were profiled on CBS This Morning. Netflix Expands Japanese Live Action Programming Growing Local Content Library

Netflix showcased a slate of upcoming live action series and films at Netflix Originals Festival held in Tokyo, Japan on 25 June. Since launch in September 2015, Netflix has been growing its library of locally produced stories. Today, an ensemble of cast and creators from Japanese original series and film joined over 280 media attendees in the event which featured 30 upcoming original titles from both Japan and beyond.

Summer Exhibitions And Events Announced At The Guggenheim Museum

From June 18 through September 3, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is open until 9 pm for Summer Tuesdays, offering music and refreshments in the museum rotunda in addition to exhibitions on view in the galleries. Films, conversations, and performances enhance opportunities for visitors to engage with the museum and the Frank Lloyd Wright designed building that celebrates 60 years as an architectural icon in 2019. Also starting in June, Summer of Know, a conversation series addressing urgent issues through the generative lens of art, returns to the Guggenheim, featuring artists, activists, and other professionals discussing topics such as LGBTQIA+ rights in a global context, environmental activism, and housing rights.
