Carlsbad Playreaders is pleased to announce its 2019 season. This season marks the most diverse and inclusive selection of playwrights, directors, and subject matter in over twenty years of the company's history. The 2019 Season maintains the Playreaders' focus on quality, professional staged readings of new and classic works, and strives for greater inclusivity across all areas of the theatre-going experience in North County San Diego. The season features Tony- and Pulitzer-winning plays, new works, and a balance of humor and drama, while the selection of plays has been curated to focus on works that are socially, culturally, and politically relevant.

The Marsh San Francisco presents the World Premiere of Border People, the newest solo show by award-winning actor and playwright Dan Hoyle, based on his conversations with immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and border crossers of all kinds. Hoyle began work on the show after the election of Trump in November 2016; as the American immigration debate has grown more heated, Hoyle has worked with increased urgency to complete the work and bring it to the stage. Border People, directed and co-developed by Charlie Varon, will be presented January 11 - February 23, 2019 (press opening: January 25) with performances at 8:00pm Thursdays, 8:00pm Fridays, and 5:00pm Saturdays at The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia St., San Francisco. After numerous trips to Israel and nearly a decade of writing and refining, Human Cargo's artistic director and playwright Christopher Morris's newest show, THE RUNNER, is ready for audiences at Theatre Passe Murailles. Morris took time to delve into the process behind the show's research and inspiration, giving us a look into how the one-man show was created - and how the idea came to him over 20 years ago.

In a historic move, Algonquin Theater Productions is announcing that it will be partnering with legendary Mexican director Mauricio Cedeno to produce two versions of the same show, 'The Paparazzi', one in English and one in Spanish, to run simultaneously in 2019. The English version will feature New York actors while the Spanish one will be comprised of actors from Guadalajara and directed by Cedeno. The new Al Tapper musical has already been produced in Mexico to great acclaim so it just made sense to bring those actors here to New York.

Lola Maltz returns to The Duplex Cabaret Theatre with her one-woman musical MY MOM IS A SEX THERAPIST. Drawing from her real-life journey growing up as the daughter of a sex therapist, Lola plays multiple characters, including her Mom, a sexually voracious alter ego, and the full cast of a lesbian safe-sex PSA. In a show that Bistro Awards called 'hilarious,' this 'stellar performer' shows how she grew into the daring woman that she is today.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the full cast and creative team for Paradise Square: An American Musical. The world premiere is helmed by acclaimed director Moises Kaufman, with choreography by the legendary Bill T. Jones and a book by Marcus Gardley, Craig Lucas, and Larry Kirwan. Music by Jason Howland and Larry Kirwan, with lyrics by Nathan Tysen, and based on the songs of Stephen Foster. Paradise Square is produced by special arrangement with Garth H. Drabinsky in association with Peter LeDonne and Teatro Proscenium Limited Partnership.

Hartford Opera Theater will offer New in November 9, a collection of short operas and opera excerpts. This opera festival will play Sunday, November 18 (7pm) at The Cathedral House at Christ Church Cathedral, 45 Church Street, Hartford, CT. Today FringeArts President and Producing Director Nick Stuccio and Artistic Producers Katy Dammers and Zach Blackwood announced the programming for two new FringeArts festivals. Blue Heaven presents twelve distinct comedy acts over two days this February 1 and 2. High Pressure Fire Service runs from March through June and features six new productions-five world premieres and one expanded remount-from some of Philadelphia's preeminent performers. These exciting new platforms expand FringeArts' already rich roster of programming-the flagship fall Fringe Festival, contemporary circus festival Hand to Hand, and year-round music, comedy, and cabaret performances-and further its mission to present world-class, contemporary performing arts that challenge convention and inspire new ways of thinking.

South African actress Gugwana Dlamini has a long history with Disney's The Lion King, from the original animated movie through to performances in the stage show around the world. She discusses returning to the show's West End home at the Lyceum Theatre, where she stars as Rafiki.

This year, a living legend of musical theatre turns 90: Lyricist-bookwriter Tom Jones (who also, under a stage name) appeared in the original company of his most famous and wildly successful record-breaking musical, The Fantasticks. His collaborator, composer Harvey Schmidt, just recently passed away. The production's record-breaking run closed, on January 13, 2002, after 17,162 performances. Their shows also include 110 in the Shade, I Do! I Do!, Philemon, Celebration and many more. And celebration is what it's about when Broadway veterans Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy in Grease, and Sarah Rice, who originated the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd, return to celebrate Jones & Schmidt. Demas and Rice have based the show on their 50 years of work and personal relationships with Tom and Harvey. With very special guest Broadway's Hal Robinson who is also a Fantasticks alumni.

Pacific Symphony won't save the best for last in the opening of the 2018-19 Pops season with the sensational entertainment star Vanessa Williams. Led by Pops conductor, Richard Kaufman, the Symphony joins Williams to celebrate her career for two nights at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, with a program of her icon hits such as "That's Entertainment," "Dreamin'," "Love Is Love," and "Save the Best for Last." The Symphony will also play the Hollywood themes from the film scores of "Splash," "The Producers," "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles," "Animal House and Airplane."

Wayward Productions, led by Judith Dimant, today announce that their inaugural production of Enda Walsh's adaptation of Max Porter's award-winning novel Grief is the Thing with Feathers. Walsh also directs, reuniting him with Cillian Murphy, following the huge success of their past collaborations: Disco Pigs, Ballyturk and Misterman.

Playwright/director Elia Schneider--born in Israel, raised in Venezuela and now an American citizen--is known for hauntingly visual productions that transcend language with strong imagery and a dreamlike fresco of movement and design. Her newest work, 'Citizens of the Gray or the Dark Thing that Sleeps Inside Me,' deals with the war of the sexes in the age of the #MeToo Movement. Hitherto, her theatrical productions have mostly emerged from ideas derived from Kafka. Now she is channeling Strindberg for a new work of ensemble creation with her Teatro Dramma. Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of the piece November 9 to 25.  It will be Schneider's Theater for the New City debut.

Happy 100th birthday, American Airlines Theatre! Roundabout's flagship home on Broadway, the American Airlines Theatre first opened its doors as the Selwyn Theatre in 1918. In 2000, Roundabout restored the theatre to its original neo-renaissance style as part of the 42nd Street Development Project, thanks to generous support from the City of New York. Through an unprecedented partnership between Roundabout and American Airlines, this historic theatre remains one of Broadway's most exquisite and patron-friendly houses.
