The Bucks County Playhouse is one of the most historic theaters in the country. Its wooden walls practically brim over with a sense of magic, holding within them the vast legacy of performers and creatives who made their impact upon its stage. Names like Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Neil Simon, Helen Hayes, Angela Lansbury... and that's the short list. One of the people currently contributing to the Playhouse's legacy in a big way is Alexander Fraser, who came onboard the Bucks County Playhouse team as Producing Director in January of 2014.

BWW Review: BOOM at Wellesley Repertory Theatre
by Andrew Child - Jan 25, 2020

Peter Sinn Nachtrieb's boom was the most produced American play of 2010. 10 years later, Wellesley Repertory Theatre has brought it back, directed by artistic director, Marta Rainer, armed with the proverbial program note toting its enduring relevance. In a way, it seems to wittily comment on the 'New Play' format that still plagues us. It gives us the Annie Baker-esque satisfaction of seeing things really happen on stage. Right at top of show, one character bangs on a timpani. We see the drum reverberate and hear the sound ringing off of the walls. Another character immediately tells her scene partner to take his shirt off. We watch him do so, and then we see him fumble to awkwardly remove his jeans, turning them inside-out in the process. Is that a real fire extinguisher? Is that a real first-aid kit? Cool.

Sarah graciously took time out to answer a few of my inquisitive queries.

Kim Katzberg's DAD IN A BOX is Back For One Night Only
by Chloe Rabinowitz - Dec 5, 2019

Kim Katzberg's NY Innovative Theatre Award-winning play Dad in a Box is back for one night only! A prestigious improv comedy workshop seems like an ideal career boost for Katzberg, until she finds her fervid imagination hamstrung by generic critiques. '...Suicidal girl on a date? I'm not sure it's a network thing.' But the real improvisation starts when Katzberg's emotionally-distant father dies, paralyzing her psyche and forcing her to confront her California-cool brother and erratic, prodigal sister. Dad in a Box, a darkly comedic, multi-character, semi-autobiographical, solo play, follows queer theater artist Kim Katzberg as she struggles to gain access to her emotional core, while processing the impending death of her abusive father. The story traces Katzberg's efforts, through wildly inventive pieces in improv class, to prod and shock herself into facing and confronting her father's emotional hold on her.

The Japanese cast will take over West Side Story in 3 Seasons, starting from November 6th, 2019 and running through January 13th, 2020. This article gives you all the links, and a youtube video!
