Drury Lane Theatre has announced casting for the final show in its 2019/2020 season, the Regional Premiere of the beautifully captivating Gershwin musical An American in Paris. Leading the cast are Josh Drake as American GI Jerry Mulligan and Leigh-Ann Esty as Lise Dassin. Drake can currently be seen on Broadway in Disney's Aladdin, and Esty returns to An American in Paris after playing the role of Lise on the show's national tour. This Tony Award-winning musical features music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin with book by Craig Lucas and is directed and choreographed by Lynne Kurdziel-Formato. Following the holidays, to begin the new year, The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre will present a stage adaptation of one of the most beloved pieces of American literature. Little Women - The Broadway Musical will open January 10th and run through February 22nd, bringing the March sisters to life on the stage at the Frederick venue.

Over the Tavern opened to a full house Sunday at Theatre at the Center in Munster. The play by Tom Dudzick is directed by Ericka Mac with Janet Ulrich Brooks as Sister Clarissa, Logan Baffico as Rudy, Cory Goodrich as Ellen, Isabelle Roberts as Annie, Eric Slater as Chet, Julian Solis as Georgie and Seth Steinberg as Eddie. Over the Tavern offers a hilarious look at family life in the 1950s.  Over the Tavern continues its run through August 11.

Arthur, Guenevere, Lancelot, Merlin-these names spark the imagination and bring to mind images of knights, swords, castles, and magic. The tales of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and the legendary Camelot are the subject of myriad novels, movies, TV shows, songs, plays, and musicals. From the 1938 tale The Sword the Stone (which was made into the animated film by Disney in 1963) to the 2008 TV series Merlin to the 2005 Broadway show Monty Python's Spamalot (based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail), for generations these stories have taken us on magical adventures. The 1960 musical Camelot, by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe is based on the T.H. White novel The Once and Future King. Camelot comes to life at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre May 9-June 22. The McCallum Theatre announced today its new lineup for the 2019-2020 season, continuing to present the finest world-class artists and entertainers for Coachella Valley audiences.  The new season includes McCallum debuts, returning favorites, iconic superstars, family-friendly entertainment and holiday cheer, among so much more. A CHRISTMAS STORY, WAITRESS and THE PLAY THAT GOES WORING are among the many Broadway offerings in what looks to be the most stellar season in McCallum history.

What is described to some as crude humor to others is the best kind of humor. I was delighted to see that the touring production of Monty Python's Spamalot was touring and would be making a stop in St. Paul at the Ordway. Adapted from the 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, this production moved to Broadway in 2005 and stars a lot of well-known names. The Broadway production was even nominated for 14 Tony awards and won three including Best Musical. The Broadway run even starred some now very big names including Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, Christian Borle and Sara Ramirez (Greys Anatomy).

The cast has been revealed for the hottest production of the year - the eagerly awaited South African premiere of the multiple Tony award-winning musical KINKY BOOTS. Presented by Eric Abraham and The Fugard Theatre,a brand new, original production of this huge-hearted, smash-hit musical will run at The Fugard Theatre from 11 June 2019.

Complementing performances of Tony Award-winning actress and director Victoria Clark's production of Conor McPherson's new version of Strindberg's The Dance of Death, Classic Stage Company (CSC; Artistic Director, John Doyle) presents the second installment of its new Classic Conversations series. The series began with acclaimed actor Raul Esparza on the occasion of his "blisteringly good" (New York magazine) turn in Bertolt Brecht's Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui; another conversation will be announced this spring. The March 5 at 7pm event will serve as a rare, intimate, and engaging distillation of Clark's life in theater through conversation-with CSC Artistic Director John Doyle and celebrated music director Ted Sperling-and song. Sperling, who memorably worked with Clark on The Light in the Piazza, for which they both received Tony Awards, will also accompany Clark on piano for the musical portion of the evening.
