BARRETT FOA HAS FRIENDS! Comes To Catalina Jazz Club In Hollywood

PAWS/LA, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit agency serving people and pets in need, has announced a one night only benefit event a?" Barrett Foa Has Friends! a?" on Monday, February 24, at 8pm. This very special evening of cabaret at Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood will feature performances by Foa and some of his most talented friends, including Broadway favorites Laura Bell Bundy, Alex Ellis, Carly Hughes, Chris Mann, and Adam Pascal, with more to be announced. Musical director is Doug Peck, Andrew Carlberg is producer, and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is the presenting sponsor.

There are some musicals that become cultural milestones, that permeate beyond the theatre community into mainstream popular culture. OKLAHOMA did so in its day and HAMILTON is an obvious modern example. But if there's one show that achieved it in the 1990s, it's RENT. And this week, you can see the 20th Anniversary touring production at DPAC. The show's music, lyrics, and book by Jonathan Larson haven't changed over the past two decades but the world in which they exist certainly has.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater has announced today that it will stage the World Premiere musical The Notebook, based on the classic best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks that inspired the hugely popular film. The musical adaptation features music and lyrics by multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson with book by playwright Bekah Brunstetter-best known as a writer and producer on NBC's hit series This Is Us.

Joshua Tavares plays Angel in the 20th Anniversary RENT National Tour, coming to DPAC January 28 to February 2. RENT is a story of love, tolerance, and hope that follows seven artists in New York City at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. The musical, with book and music by Jonathan Larson, has been beloved since it first opened on Broadway in 1996. Tavares is originally from Hawaii and attended school at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and AMDA NY. This is his first national tour.

Everything is Rent at the Times Union Center for the Performing Arts in Jacksonville, FL. Jonathan Larson's Rent takes place in New York City in the Late 80's to early 90's. The audience follows a group of characters as they discover how important it is to embrace each day they are given because they do not know when it will be their last. Through the entire production on January 14, I could hear fans of the production laugh, sniffle, and applaud as the beautiful story unfolded.

It is a RENT tradition to offer discounted rush seating in the first few rows of the orchestra section. This tradition began in 1996 in New York when the show moved to Broadway after a sold-out run in a small downtown theatre. The 20th Anniversary Tour continues the tradition of offering these orchestra seats in every city.

Chicago Will Receive $15 Million Art, Entertainment and Events Venue Epiphany Center for the Arts

A new multi-space, multi-dimensional 42,000 sq. ft. art, entertainment and events destination, Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Ave., formerly the iconic Church of the Epiphany, will open this winter. One of the largest cultural venues in the city and a designated Chicago landmark, this architecturally significant property has been acquired in a multi-million-dollar transaction by Chicago Developer David Chase; he along with his wife, Kimberly Rachal have lovingly preserved the historic church and its adjacent buildings. The revitalization and renovation project, which houses artifacts from the church originally built in 1885, will feature three unique event spaces, a café, courtyard and other ancillary spaces to support the visual, performing and culinary arts. Epiphany Center for the Arts will once again become a place for the community to congregate, All for the Good of Art, Entertainment and Events.

The Kimmel Center Cultural Campus presents RENT 20th Anniversary Tour, running October 18 a?" 20 at the Merriam Theater, and announces a ticket lottery for every performance, offering a limited number of seats in the first rows of the orchestra section for the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical. These $25 tickets are available for in-person purchases at the Merriam Theater Box Office, located at 250 S. Broad Street, on the day of each performance ONLY, two hours prior to the show. San Francisco Playhouse announced casting for the Bay Area premiere of Groundhog Day the Musical, the hit Broadway comedy adapted from the timeless Bill Murray film. Danny Rubin, co-writer of the 1993 film, wrote the book, with music and lyrics supplied by Tony-winner Tim Minchin (Matilda). Susi Damilano will direct the Playhouse production, with music direction by Dave Dobrusky and choreography by Nicole Helfer.
