Isaac Mizrahi returns to Cafe Carlyle with an all-new show, Isaac Mizrahi: Queen Size, February 5 - 16. His previous two residencies in the room were sellouts, receiving widespread critical acclaim. Mizrahi will perform classics by Leonard Bernstein, Cat Stevens, Jimmy Webb, John Kander, Cole Porter, James Taylor and Jerome Kern. Once again, he'll be joined by his band of (handsome, thin, single) (maybe not single) jazz musicians, led by Ben Waltzer. Chicago Opera Theater (COT) will kick off the 2018/2019 season with "Iolanta," a Chicago premiere of legendary composer P.I. Tchaikovsky's final opera. Internationally renowned and award-winning conductor Lidiya Yankovskaya will make her conducting debut as Chicago Opera Theater's Staley Music Director and set the tone for the season to come. Acclaimed stage director Paul Curran, known for his work at Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera Chicago and more, will shape the retelling of this joyous love-story, featuring an almost entirely Chicago-based cast including soprano Katherine Weber as Iolanta, and renowned Russian bass Mikhail Svetlov as Rene. The opening night and press performance takes place on Saturday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Studebaker Theater (410 S. BWW Review: THE SAN DIEGO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA at the Jacobs Music Center

The first concert in the San Diego Symphony's 2018-19 Jacobs Masterworks series included oft-returning guest conductor Edo de Waart and pianist Joyce Yang. The program consisted of Nocturne by contemporary composer Michael Ippolito which was premiered in 2012, and two familiar works, Grieg's piano concerto and Beethoven's 7th symphony. In a pre-concert interview with Nuvi Mehti, Ippolito explained that Nocturne was inspired by Joan Miro's 1940 painting of the same name. Diverse musical influences include Chopin, Debussy, John Field, and the 'Night Music' of Bartok. (more...)

The play won five Tony nominations and four Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1965, and lived on in film and television adaptations for many years. The hilariously miss-matched apartment mates -divorced and slovenly Oscar and obsessively neat Felix (whose marriage has just dissolved) - are joined by Oscar's poker buddies and a tempting pair of sisters, Cecily and Gwendolyn, who live upstairs.
