Diamanda’s “La Llorona”is the legend of a mestizo woman who has been abandoned by her Spanish lover, who deserted her for a 'purebred' woman. Faced with the threat of having her children stolen by their father, she takes the children to the river and kills them to destroy her faithless lover’s bloodline. The Rocky Horror Picture Show will come to life at Kings Theatre on Halloween this year as part of its 49th Anniversary Spectacular Tour. Actor Barry Bostwick will host this live interactive musical comedy experience. Now a stage musical, John Cassavetes’ 1977 film Opening Night was a commercial flop when it was released, later becoming something of a cult classic of American independent cinema. Director Ivo Van Hove specialises in bringing work to the stage that may be called “challenging”. Challenging can be hugely successful, but I’ve rarely seen a production more determined to confuse and frustrate an audience.
