The Verdi Chorus 35th Anniversary Season Ends with PASSIONE! OPERA!

The Verdi Chorus 35th anniversary season culminates with its Fall 2018 concert Passione! Opera! for two performances only at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Monica on November 10 and 11 led by Founding Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum.   As the only choral group in Southern California that focuses primarily on the dramatic and diverse music for opera chorus, this program, which marks the end of a landmark year for the company, will feature selections from three Verdi operas - Aida, Don Carlo, and the famed chorus "Va, pensiero," from Nabucco, as well as operatic sequences from Boito's Mefistofele, Saint-Saens' Samson and Delilah, Catalani's La Wally and Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. Johnny Goudie To Play HAAM Benefit Day Show Tomorrow, EP Release This Thursday

Austin-based indie singer-songwriter Johnny Goudie is gearing up for the release of his solo EP 'Leper Hands' this Thursday, Sept. 13 and his official EP release show at One-2-One Bar also on Sept. 13. Doors for this show are at 7 p.m., with the soulful Aaron Stephens opening at 7:30 p.m. and Johnny Goudie on at 8:30 p.m. Austin pop musician Sarah Dossey and Shy Beast vocalist MC Glaeser will also be singing backup for Goudie at this show. German soprano Evelyn Herlitzius, scheduled to make her San Francisco Opera debut as Brunnhilde in Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), has withdrawn from the upcoming engagement due to health reasons. While San Francisco Opera regrets this casting change, the Company is honored to welcome in her stead the equally acclaimed Swedish soprano Irene Theorin as Brunnhilde, the pivotal heroine of Wagner's magnum opus. A celebrated Brunnhilde, Theorin's engagement will mark her first complete Ring in the United States with three cycles of the work at the War Memorial Opera House, June 12-July 1, 2018. (more...)

Houston Grand Opera Closes Extraordinary 2017-18 Season With Hurricane Losses Offset By Major Philanthropic Support

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced at its annual meeting today that its 2017-18 season, dramatically relocated after Hurricane Harvey, closed on a strong financial footing despite nearly $15 million of losses due to the storm and related costs. Lower sales income than in previous seasons was significantly offset by a Harvey recovery fundraising campaign that has raised more than $9.5 million to date. HGO presented its entire 63rd season in the HGO Resilience Theater, a temporary venue the company built in Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center after its home in the Wortham Theater Center was seriously damaged by flooding. The company will return to the Wortham in the fall with a gala benefit concert featuring Placido Domingo and Ana Maria Martinez on September 26. (more...)

Shooter Jennings Releases New Single DENIM & DIAMONDS

A song whose sound gives the listener the sense that it's been a classic for decades, 'Denim & Diamonds' is a dark and smoky acoustic guitar and bass-driven paean to the late 80s/early 90s line dancing culture that thrived in dive clubs across the country and the people in his life who lived to go out and simply dance the night away. It was a scene he judged harshly while growing up, yet now looks back on with fondness as he reflects upon the carefree days of youth, wondering where the people who partied in these clubs are today. The Metropolitan Opera Announces its 2018 Summer HD Festival

Michael Feinstein and the Pasadena POPS close out their popular outdoor summer concert series at the Los Angeles County Arboretum on Saturday, September 8 with Broadway Goes to the Movies. The POPS season finale will provide a quintessential Feinstein experience with some of Broadway's greatest performers recreating songs from hit shows that traveled from 42nd St. to Hollywood. "This program is going to celebrate all the different musical aspects of Broadway and Hollywood," says Feinstein, who has put together a program spanning the Broadway canon from My Fair Lady to The Sound of Music to Jersey Boys.
