BWW Interview: Director Joe O'Byrne Returns to Irish Rep this Summer with THE ARAN ISLANDS

As part of their 2017 summer season, Irish Repertory Theatre, is presenting the US premiere of THE ARAN ISLANDS, directed by Joe O' Byrne. Returning to Irish Rep after 16 years, O'Byrne is looking forward to sharing Irish playwright, John Millington Synge's work with New York audiences and is grateful to this organization for making it possible to share the work of Irish artists. This classic work celebrates the art of storytelling and challenges audiences to step outside their own cultures for a brief time and immerse themselves in a whole new world of discovery and enlightenment. HEADLESS - a modern gothic rock-opera ghost story that revisits author Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow from co-writers Bradley Bredeweg (Freeform's 'The Fosters,' Showtime's 'Intersection,' Bill Condon's Side Show on Broadway) and Brad Hooks (Freeform's 'The Fosters') - will be the focus of a new work development lab that will explore the score, story and new stage technology over the course of two and a half weeks at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (The Wallis) in Beverly Hills. The lab will launch on Thursday, July 6 and will culminate with closed presentations on Saturday, July 22 and Sunday, July 23 (presentations by private invitation only). (more...)

All Out Arts fulfills its mission by supporting arts organizations within the community through fiscal sponsorship, events, contests, collaborations, networking events for emerging artists, and by sponsoring productions, concerts and exhibitions of visual arts. 10 Hairy Legs, the all-male repertory dance company extends its footprint during its sixth season of performances and educational programming, appearing in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Vermont, as well as in its home state of New Jersey.  Artistic Director Randy James noted, "We are pleased to have had such a positive and wide-reaching response from our presenting partners across the county to our vision of exploring the artistry of the male dancer. Ars Lyrica Houston Opens 2017/2018 Artful Women Season

Ars Lyrica Houston, the Grammy nominated early music ensemble, opens its 2017/18 season: Artful Women: Muse, Heroine, Musician, and Patron with Sweet Philomela on September 22, 2017 at 7:30p.m. in Zilkha Hall at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The opening concert features exotic musical works inspired by Philomela, mythical princess of Athens, whose transformation into a nightingale has fascinated poets and musicians for centuries. Soprano Sherezade Panthaki returns to the Zilkha Hall stage for evocative arias from Handel's L'Allegro, il Penseroso, ed il Moderato and Johann Adolph Hasse's lyric cantata L'Armonica, while Dennis James makes his Ars Lyrica debut on the glass harmonica which he describes the program as "the most challenging technically to perform while reigning as the most beautiful in the entire glass music repertoire." The ensemble of strings and winds soar with one of C. P. E. Bach's vibrant symphonies for twelve obbligato instruments. This season highlights Houston's own artful women by honoring leading female philanthropists and longtime members of the Ars Lyrica family for their tireless advocacy and generous support, at each concert with an exclusive dinner and program package experience. New York Musical Festival Announces 2017 Winners for NYMF Awards for Excellence

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) announced today the winners of the 2017 NYMF Awards for Excellence, which were awarded on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Hudson Terrace (621 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036). The 2017 NYMF Award for Best Musical Sponsored by Play-by-Play was awarded to GENERATION ME, with the Show-Score Best of Fest Awards for Readings, Concerts/Events and Productions, going to CHRISTMAS IN HELL, Dorian GRAY, and ERROL AND FIDEL, respectively. GENERATION ME took home the most awards, with GEORAMA: AN AMERICAN PANORAMA TOLD ON 3 MILES OF CANVAS, ERROL AND FIDEL, and FREEDOM RIDERS taking home multiple prizes as well. Tale of Vietnam Vet LONE STAR Extends Run at The Triad

 In April of 2017 at Wild Project in the East Village, a revival of James McLure's Lone Star, by NINE Theatricals, took the stage in New York City for only the second time since it's Broadway debut in 1979. The production was met with tremendous feedback and glowing reviews from New York City critics and audiences who had not before seen this lesser known work. With a demand for more shows, producers moved Lone Star, in May, to The Triad Theatre for a limited Off Broadway contract run. (more...)
