On 11 January 2022, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg celebrates five years since its grand opening. The concert hall has demonstrated night after night that the live music experience in a spectacular architectural setting can inspire everyone, while also transforming the image of an entire city.

Walt Disney World has just announced the Disney on Broadway concert series lineup. The series is one of the many festivities guests can experience at the 2022 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts. The star-studded event will include guests from several Disney on Broadway shows including Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast and Mary Poppins.

The Troubies’ Holidaze show SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN’ TO MOTOWN will open at the Garry Marshall Theatre November 23, 2021. A hilarious mainstay of many a Troubie production Rick Batalla took some time from his daily antics to fill me in on some behind-the-scenes of his history with the Troubadour Theater Company.

Mykal Kilgore is a force to be reckoned with. In only a few short years he has appeared in a brace of Broadway musicals, including, Hair, Motown: the Musical, The Wiz Live!, Dear Evan Hansen, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, Songs for a New World, and Into the Woods. His first album, A Man Born Black was a big hit for Affective Music. His single from the album  “Let Me Go” was nominated for a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance in 2021. He is the first openly gay artist to be nominated in the category.

As live performances return to venues throughout Southern California, Irvine Barclay Theatre welcomes a new season featuring an array of renowned performers, from iconic dancers to Grammy-winning artists, the beloved holiday classic The Nutcracker, and Emmy nominee and social commentator Fran Lebowitz, among others.

Originally scheduled back in September, the wait was worth it to hear Laura Benanti sing selections from her roles on Broadway and a few tracks from her 2020 self-titled studio album in her debut Cabaret at the Center which was part uproarious stand-up comedy act, and part beguiling Broadway/Jazz concert. Continues through November 13, 2021.

Alex Wyse and Ben Fankhauser have joined forces to write and star in A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet, a new musical off-Broadway. The show is “is everything you want the first new musical premiering in NYC to be: whip-smart and stupid funny, packed with songs as catchy as a jingle.” I had the opportunity to see Regina Comet this past weekend and had such a fun time!

Hadestown, the 2019 Tony Award-winning Best Musical, officially opened its North American Tour on October 15, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The University of South Carolina dance program will present a repertory of classic and premiere contemporary works during the UofSC Dance Company Fall Concert, November 4-5 at the Koger Center for the Arts. 

It is mere coincidence that Anaïs Mitchell’s remarkable, Tony Award-winning Hadestown, now being given a solid production at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House, debuted on Broadway just before our twenty-month plague began, but it fits. Mitchell’s story is at bottom a moral call to arms, which cleverly mines the saddest tale in all of mythology and marries it to a still older myth – one which was designed to explain the seasons.

There’s a new Theatre company in town! Darryl Reuben Hall and Stage Aurora Theatrical Company announced today the formation of Stage Aurora NY, with a mission “to enlighten the mind by way of diverse, faith-based and BIOP works.”
