Over the course of the last 26 years somewhere along the line of learned history in the depths of musical theatre you have heard the name Jonathan Larson, synonymous with the 1996 Rock musical RENT that changed the face of musical theatre in its time. Boasting a rock score and groundbreaking storylines such as the rise of the AIDS epidemic sweeping the country, RENT was unlike anything in its conception. However, Jonathan Larson and his stamp on modern musical theatre came into fruition before RENT. Trying to establish himself in the live theatre arena since the early 1980s, Larson began performing his Semi-Autobiographical Rock Musical Tick, Tick...Boom! in the early 90’s as a solo piece. Tragically Jonathan Larson passed away in 1996 of a rare heart condition before he was able to feel the immense magnitude of his fame.

The main character is a musical theater writer named Jonathan who's trying to get his foot in the door in the New York theater scene. He's turning 30, his friends are moving up in their careers, and he's learning to manage expectations and reality in his life's endeavors.

Spanish Lyric Theatre aka SLT Productions will take on the rock musical Tick, Tick...Boom! as they welcome audiences back with their first full production since Covid. Staged in English, Tick, Tick... Boom! is the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist of Rent.

Netflix has shared the 'Green Green Dress' deleted scene from tick, tick BOOM! The new scene features Andrew Garfield and Alexandra Shipp. The track, which is included in Jonathan Larson's stage musical, was cut from the recent Netflix film adaption directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick... BOOM! Presented by The Ritz Theatre Company as part of the organization's 'Grand Reopening' season, this autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning creator of Rent, is the story of a composer and the sacrifices he makes on the road to the proverbial big break.
