In a twisted mash-up of WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and GLEE, FLIES! THE MUSICAL! follows the drama kids from Lovely Valley Performing Arts Magnet High School. The students are left behind in an abandoned forest preserve during a 'research' retreat for an unauthorized teacher-written musical production of LORD OF THE FLIES. Gradually, things turn savage in a couple of unsupervised hours as the plot points of the novel begin to come true one by one, in song, until eventually the kids are 'rescued' by an astonished park ranger (who happens to love musicals) but it's much too late for them to go back to who they were before. FLIES! THE MUSICAL! Extends Through June 16

The Jeff-recommended World Premiere production of FLIES! THE MUSICAL has been extended for one additional weekend, due to popular demand. Originally scheduled to close on June 10, the new musical by bookwriter/lyricist Larry Todd Cousineau and composer Cindy O'Connor will play three additional performances - on Thursday June 14 and Friday, June 15 - and closing Saturday, June 16, all with curtain times of 7:30 pm. The Thursday, June 14 performance is pay-what-you-can for theatre industry members and returning audiences. Bust A Move With the Good NewsAltar Boyz is one of the craziest, funniest things I have seen lately. A tongue-in-cheek satire not of God or organized religion per se, but of a particular type of hyperactive, relentlessly upbeat Christian entertainment that is pure, irresistible showbiz. The title is the name of a fictitious Christian boy-band on the last night of their national 'Raise the Praise' tour: Matthew (Cameron Conners), Mark (Michael Detmer), Luke (Tony Smith), Juan (Remy Sisk), and Abraham (Alfie Jones), who's Jewish and sports a yarmulke adorned with a glitzy star. Marietta Theatre Company Opens Second Season With NUNSENSE

Following a successful inaugural season, Marietta Theatre Company is kicking off its second season with Nunsense, a comedic, over-the-top musical that tells the story of five of the 19 surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken: a one-time missionary order that ran a leper colony on an island south of France. Nunsense, set to run August 17 through September 1 at the Lyric Studio on the Square, is a hysterical comedy written and produced by Dan Goggin, who received the 1986 Outer Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Music.
