Review: DERREN BROWN: ONLY HUMAN, Apollo Theatre
by Franco Milazzo - Oct 23, 2026

After being taken on a lengthy tour of the UK and Ireland, Only Human comes to the West End as Brown’s first appearance since 2022’s Showman, a post-pandemic show filled with highly personal insights. Its follow-up Unbelievable saw Brown remain backstage as co-creator, writer and co-director (alongside Andy Nyman and Andrew O’Connor), with Simon Lipkin and a company of actor-musicians out front. (In a neat twist, Lipkin has set up home next door to the Apollo as Dickens’s arch-pickpocket Fagin in Oliver!)

Review: THE PIANIST, Park Theatre
by Cindy Marcolina - Oct 23, 2026

While both the film and the autobiography have entered our cultural heritage as testimonies of the Nazi era – the poverty it brought, its violence, its misery – this new rendition inhabits a different realm. Thom Southerland debuts Szpilman’s own compositions in an invariably morose piece of theatre that never finds its pace nor purpose. A team of actor-musicians revives Szpilman’s story, but this version of The Pianist struggles to securely grip the audience. Sutherland centralises the creative process, adapting and directing Szpilman’s book; this type of clustering is risky, and it doesn’t pay off on this occasion.

Interview: Writer/Performer Karen Agam Macarah of THE DYSMORPHIC DIVA at The Braid
by Shari Barrett - Oct 22, 2026

The latest offering from The Braid is The Dysmorphic Diva, written and performed by Karen Agam Macarah (pictured, credit David Chiu). Fresh from its sold-out run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival, her confessional cabaret shares how the shape we see in the mirror and how our family sees us shapes who we are for the rest of our lives. I spoke with Karen about how she developed her one-woman show, how she decided on which Broadway musical show tunes to sing, and which hilarious and touching true stories about family relationships and body struggles to include on her way to finding her best self.

Set in 1880s London, Gaslight follows Bella Manningham, whose husband Jack seems determined to convince her she is losing her mind. Each night the gaslights dim and footsteps echo from the sealed-off upper floor. When a visiting detective arrives with a theory about the house’s dark past, Bella must decide whom to believe. Steven Dietz’s taut adaptation of Patrick Hamilton’s 1939 thriller is the play that gave the world the word “gaslighting”.
