Prolific tunesmith Stephin Merritt, of The Magnetic Fields, brings this gorgeous 1916 classic to life with his new, original score in live accompaniment to the film's new 35mm print. Billed as "the first submarine photoplay ever filmed," this pioneering adaptation of Jules Vern's 1869 novel makes a perfect muse for notoriously wry singer-songwriter Merritt, who will be joined by an ensemble including organist David Hegarty and frequent Merritt collaborator and author Daniel Handler (a.k.a. Lemony Snicket) on the accordion. On an expedition to find and destroy a mysterious sea monster, marine biologist Professor Arronax and his brave crew find much more than they bargained for. After the menacing sea creature dashes their ship to bits, the men are brought aboard Captain Nemo's über-submarine, the Nautilus, a new type of sea vessel built in secret. The enigmatic Nemo, who patrols the depths of the sea in self-imposed exile, takes Arronax and the crew on an epic underwater adventure. The film's grand beauty and wondrous sense of adventure come embellished by a backstory for Nemo as ludicrously campy as it is revealing of the era's sensibilities. With his unique gift for memorable melodies, lovelorn lyrics, and inventive musical stylings that blend classic Tin Pan Alley with postmodern grooves, Merritt has distinguished himself as one of contemporary pop's most beloved and influential artists.

Every artist has a story. Melody's is at the heart of her music. When she was 19, Melody was hit by a car. During her recovery she used music as a form of therapy, even recording and releasing tracks while still in the hospital. Once out, she started playing around Philadelphia. Before long Universal Records signed her. Her first full-length album, Worrisome Heart, displayed her gift for transforming the traditions of jazz and blues with her intimate and personal sound. It also set a soulful artist with a small but strong following onto the world stage. After the critical acclaim that met her debut Melody was ready. Ready to work with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein to create an album that would capture the subtleties of a live performance in the studio. Ready to collaborate with legendary composer Vince Mendoza, whose orchestral arrangements she thought of as a secret weapon on her album. Ready to grow as an artist. Ready to evolve her sound.

Within days of Alternative Press including Censored Colors on its list of 10 Essential Albums of 2008, the members of Portugal. The Man were trudging through the Boston snow to start work on their fourth release in four years, The Satanic Satanist. As John Baldwin Gourley, named the year's Best Vocalist in that same issue of AP, explains the pace at which his band has turned out any number of the decade's more inspired moments, "Honestly, I think we should be putting out more music. It keeps you thinking, keeps you growing and progressing. If you stop and let it sit for too long, I feel like you start to lose track of where you were going." For The Satanic Satanist, Gourley and his bandmates - Zachary Scott Carothers/bass, and Ryan Neighbors/keyboards, and the drummer for the album, Garrett Lunceford - flew to Boston's Camp Street Studios to work with Paul Q. Kolderie, whose previous clients include both the Pixies and Radiohead, with additional production help from Adam Taylor (The Lemonheads, The Dresdon Dolls) and Cornershop sitarist/keyboardist Anthony Saffery.

Native sons of Tulsa, Oklahoma, HANSON has been making music together for nearly two decades. Thirteen years ago, their out-of-the-blue, soul-inspired brand of American pop-rock'n'roll was introduced to the world. Unaffected by charts or fads, they've spent more than a decade building a community of fans connected to one another and fueled by the energy and craftsmanship of three brothers and their music. Their fifth studio album, Shout It Out, is set to be released on June 8th 2010 on their label 3CG Records. They deliver a powerful group of soulful, melodic tunes that will leave you with a contagious sense of optimism for the future and welcomed reminiscence for American rock 'n' roll.
