5th Avenue Theatre Seeks Students for OKLAHOMA!

By: Nov. 22, 2011

When the sun sets on The 5th Avenue Theatre's production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, Seattle teens will take the reins to remake, remarket, and remount the production with their peers. With the support of the talented Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, this production will be performed, crewed, supported, marketed, and produced by student teams under the guidance and coaching of The 5th Avenue Theatre professionals. The 5th Avenue Theatre is now accepting applications from teens with interests ranging from performance and technical theatre to fundraising and marketing to participate in this celebration of the great American musical.

Interested students should visit www.5thAvenue.org for applications which must be received no later than November 29, 2011. In addition to the application, students will need a cover letter, an updated resume, and a letter of recommendation. Administrative work will begin in December and January, with rehearsals beginning in February 2012. Performances take place March 16 and 17, 2012. Selected students will perform on the stunning 5th Avenue set, alter costumes, call light cues, design posters and ad campaigns, and fundraise, all while working directly with 5th Avenue staff members.

Students May Apply to Participate on the Following Teams:
1) THE PRODUCTION TEAM will be led by the production director and work with the artistic team. Duties include rehearsal support, research, script reading, production paperwork, special projects, and other administrative work. The production team will also provide cast and company management support when needed. Students involved in drama clubs and extracurricular leadership are ideal candidates.

2) THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM will work with The 5th Avenue Development Department to raise funds for the production. Students on the development team will gain first-hand experience in fundraising for a national leader among non-profit theaters. Students involved in Key Club, ASB, or school fundraising are ideal candidates.

3) THE MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS TEAM will develop marketing campaigns, social media campaigns, and promotional events for the production. This team will work closely with 5th Avenue staff to ensure that the production has an audience. Students involved in DECA or students with an interest in graphic arts will be ideal candidates.

4) THE STUDENT FINANCE & TICKETING TEAM will work with 5th Avenue staff to manage the production budget. This will be an amazing opportunity for interested students to learn first-hand about the business operations of a major regional theater. Students involved in Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) are ideal candidates.

5) THE STUDENT TECHNICAL TEAM will work with the 5th Avenue Professional Technical Theatre team. The professional team will mentor students in industry standard safety and best practices of running shows. Students will run the show under supervision of the 5th Avenue professional technical team.

6) THE STAGE MANAGEMENT TEAM will work primarily with production stage management and assistant during pre-rehearsal, rehearsal, tech and performances. Students in this team will also have the opportunity to shadow members of The 5th Avenue technical crew. Duties will include rehearsal setup and strike, taking blocking notes, tracking paperwork, and running shows.

7) STUDENT PERFORMERS Auditions will be held for high school performers (actors and dancers) to constitute the production's cast.
