"Cine en Domingo" Film Series presents La Bamba on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 3:00 pm. A program of The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement, "Cine en Domingo" films are presented in Spanish with English subtitles. Assemblymember Monique Limon and actor Andy Valdez will host a compelling dialogue discussing important thematic elements of La Bamba, the 1987 film that tells the story of singer Ritchie Valens and his rise to fame with his chart-toping hit, "La Bamba." The "Cine en Domingo" series as a whole showcases both classic and contemporary Spanish language films, with compelling titles chosen to engage the Latino community and all who love this genre of filmmaking. The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to partner with the Cliff Drive Care Center to screen Toy Story 3, the fourth installment in the 'Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin' Film Series, on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 7:00pm at The Granada Theatre. The evening will also feature a Q & A with Conklin and representatives from the Cliff Drive Care Center to engage the audience in meaningful conversations about the film. Tickets for the film are $10 or $20 and are available on GranadaSB.org or at the Box Office: (805) 899-2222. The Granda Theatre is offering a discounted family four pack of tickets for $25 and free popcorn for the Toy Story 3 movie screening.  (more...)

The 'Movies That Matter with Hal Conklin' film series continues with Hidden Figures, on Monday, February 19th, at 7:00 pm at The Granada Theatre. The Jurkowitz Center for Community Engagement is pleased to partner with the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara for the screening of this next film in the beloved "Movies that Matter" series. Series moderator Hal Conklin will be joined by E. Onja Brown-Lawson, President of the Board of Directors of the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee of Santa Barbara, for a pre-screening discussion with special guest First Lieutenant Victoria Foster of Vandenberg Air Force Base. Tickets for the film screening are $10 or $20 and are available online at GranadaSB.org. The Center for Successful Aging (CSA) is pleased to announce their sixth annual benefit concert, "Sophisticated Ladies," featuring an exclusive performance by local music legend Ike Jenkins and his 20 piece Big Band. CSA will also honor the Assistance League of Santa Barbara with the 'Spirit of Successful Aging" award, recognizing their 70 years of service, commitment and dedication to the local community. The concert will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2pm at the Marjorie Luke Theatre. Tickets are $100 for patron seats, $25 for adults and $10 for children.  (more...)

The Santa Barbara Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Nir Kabaretti, will pay tribute to the musical genius of Leonard Bernstein with performances that highlight the breadth of his legacy on Saturday, February 17, and Sunday, February 18. Featuring award-winning soprano Lisa Vroman and singers from the Santa Barbara Choral Society, the concerts will take place at 8 pm on February 17 and at 3 pm on February 18 at the Granada Theatre. The program will include some of Bernstein's best-known works, including melodies from the ballet Fancy Free and his timeless West Side Story, as well as Aaron Copland's Quiet City and the world premiere of a piano concerto by acclaimed Santa Barbara-based composer Robin Frost.
