The 30th Anniversary of Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ - Jewish Comedy on Christmas in a (this year, pop-up) Chinese Restaurant takes place Dec 23-25 live in-person AND virtually, on YouTube Live.
Kung Pao is an institution in San Francisco and one of the city’s longest-running comedy shows.
Kung Pao was created in 1993 to answer the age-old question, “What are Jews supposed to do on Christmas?
The New Asia Restaurant, where Kung Pao took place for the past 20+ years, closed during the pandemic. The 30th Anniversary shows will take place in the “Kung Pao Room” at Congregation Sherith Israel.
Kung Pao has boasted a Who’s Who of Jewish comedians including the late greats Henny Youngman, Shelley Berman, and David Brenner.
This year features Mark Schiff, Cathy Ladman, Orion Levine, founder Lisa Geduldig, and her 91 year old mother, Arline, by video from Florida. (Arline started doing stand up on Lisa’s monthly virtual show Lockdown Comedy during the pandemic.)
Kung Pao returns to in-person shows this year (and maintains its virtual option) after two years of solely virtual shows.
Kung Pao has raised 10s of thousands of dollars since its inception. This year, partial proceeds benefit SF-Marin Food Bank AND Center for Reproductive Rights.
