King of Cuba, a new comedy by award-winning writer Cristina Garcia, opens with a press night on Saturday, July 21, and runs through August 19 (previews July 19 & 20) at the historic Berkeley City Club. The summer adventure of the Central Works 2018 season King of Cuba, is developed by Ms. Garcia in the Central Works Writers Workshop featuring the lesbian-gender-bending comedian Marga Gomez, and the Grammy-winning "bongocero" Carlos Caro. All are Cubanx celebrities living in the Bay Area. Directed by Gary Graves, the full cast includes Marco Aponte, Leticia Duarte, Elena Garrity, Marga Gomez, Ben Ortega and Steve Ortiz.

Steve Budd, who returns to perform Thursdays and Saturdays July 19 - August 18 at The Marsh San Francisco, has added a special one-afternoon-only performance of his hit show What They Said About Love at 2pm, Sunday, August 12. He also announces a line-up of post-show events including visits from relationship and sex experts, astrologers, and more, who will help audiences explore whether love is in their stars, and how people really connect. Casting has been announced for the return ofAmerican Conservatory Theater's (A.C.T.) acclaimed theatrical adaptation of Khaled Hosseini's international best-selling novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns-performing at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater for a limited two-week engagement July 17-29, 2018 as part of a West Coast tour that includes runs at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre and Seattle Repertory Theatre. Set amid the war-torn streets of modern-day Kabul, A Thousand Splendid Suns is the epic story of three generations of Afghan women bound together by marriage, family, and a secret past. Strong-willed Laila, unmarried and pregnant, is forced to marry her older neighbor when her family and home are torn apart.

As part of its 35thAnniversary celebration, Alonzo King LINES Ballet presents Through-LINES: The Art of Ballet, a retrospective exhibition highlighting the company's outstanding multi-disciplinary collaborations at the non-profit gallery 836M. Montalvo Arts Center Raises More Than Half A Million At Annual Gala

From acrobats to can-can dancers Montalvo Arts Center's historical Villa and grounds were transformed into the iconic Parisian night club Moulin Rouge for its biennial fundraising gala, Moulin Montalvo: A Gala Night in Montmartre on June 16. The event broke all previous fundraising records, collecting more than half a million dollars for the arts organization. The evening included live entertainment, an array of sumptuous cuisine by Le Papillon paired with Champagne Taittinger and French wines, plus a high-spirited live auction. The $600,000 raised from this black-tie event will support the Center's artistic and educational programming efforts and ongoing mission to engage the community in the creative process.
