Grammy and Tony award-winning songwriter and composer Duncan Sheik returns with his new album WHISPER HOUSE, from Sony Music. WHISPER HOUSE marks Sheik's first solo album since 2006's critically-acclaimed White Limousine and comes on the heels of the success of Spring Awakening. WHISPER HOUSE, which will have its world premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in January 2010, is a collaboration with up-and-coming young playwright Kyle Jarrow, already an Obie winner for A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant.

MY YEAR OF LIVING ANXIOUSLY, a new work, looks at the complicated life of a member of the sandwich generation wedged between aging parents, hormonal teenagers and psychiatric bologna. Drawing on the diaries her father kept for 63 years (documenting, among other things, Keefes own raucous youth) and letters from her mother, and research from doctors, Keefe weaves generational perspectives on real-life events and traumas while she reveals her growing respect for her parents as the diaries and letters expose the storm of parenthood that they weathered. This work contains Keefes trademark wisecracking humor and wacky sensibility as well as touching revelations.

La Jolla Playhouse announced today five of six productions in its 2010/11 subscription season, including the world premiere of Annie Weisman's Surf Report, running June/July in the Mandell Weiss Forum; William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley and featuring an on-stage orchestra playing the music of Mendelssohn, running July/Aug in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; the world-premiere musical comedy A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak, lyrics by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak, starring Tony Award-winner Jefferson Mays, running Sept/Oct in the Mandell Weiss Theatre; a new adaptation of Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, adapted by Robert Woodruff and Bill Camp, directed by Robert Woodruff, running late Sept/Oct in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre; and Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Ruined, running Nov/Dec in the Mandell Weiss Theatre. The final production of the 2010/11 season - a musical - will be announced shortly.

Production photos have been released for the Old Globe's production of Neil Simon's 'Lost in Yonkers', the inaugural production of the Globe's Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre. Tony Award winner Judy Kaye will play Grandma Kurnitz in Simon's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Directed by Scott Schwartz, Lost in Yonkers will run Jan. 23 - Feb. 28. Previews run from Jan. 23 - Jan. 27. Opening night is Jan. 28 at 8:00 p.m.

The Old Globe's Production of STREET LIGHTS Postponed

The premiere of Street Lights, originally set to run Feb. 20 - 28 at both Lincoln High School's Center for the Arts and the Old Globe Theatre, has been postponed. The contemporary musical drama by composer and lyricist Joe Drymala recently received a one week workshop, culminating in a showcase presentation in the Globe's new Hattox Hall. The musical will continue to be developed to better accommodate the addition of new material and other desired changes by the creative team discovered through the workshop process. A future date has not been announced.

Duncan Sheik is once again set to take the theatre world by storm with the upcoming musical 'Whisper House'; but he's not letting past successes weigh too heavily on his mind. 'Whisper House' marks Sheik's first stage production since his critically acclaimed coming-of-age sensation, 'Spring Awakening'. And while some may feel inclined to surpass the already-high expectations, the clout of Spring Awakening does not add added pressure, '"I don't feel it personally at all," Sheik says in an interview with the San Diego Union Tribune, "Because the intentions of the two things are so different. With 'Whisper House,' frankly, the goals were more modest. Especially initially, it was this slightly small, tight little thing we were doing - hopefully this thing of beauty.
