Cygnet Theatre Stages Two Comedies in Rotating Rep, Now thru 10/27

Take two world renowned playwrights, mix in a theatre that is not afraid of a challenge, and you get the next offering in Cygnet Theatre's 11th season. By producing two great theatre classics in rotating repertory, Cygnet is once again raising the bar for San Diego theaters. The monumental task of directing both The Importance of Being Earnest and Travesties will be handled by Artistic Director Sean Murray. Performances will be at the Old Town Theatre, tonight, September 18 - October 27. Opening Day for media is September 28.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the World Premiere comedy The Few by award-winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale). Directed by Davis McCallum, The Few will run Sept. 28 - Oct. 27, 2013 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Lamb's Players Theatre announced today that MIXTAPE - the Greatest Hits of the 80s! is in its final weeks at The Horton Grand Theatre and will close October 13th. It will be replaced with Lamb's current comedic whodunit Coronado hit, The 39 Steps, running from October 22nd - December 1st.
Moonlight Stage to Present BLITHE SPIRIT & THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND this Winter

Producing Artistic Director Steven Glaudini today announces Moonlight Stage Productions' 24th Winter Season at the AVO Playhouse. For the first time, the three-show season will include two musicals along with a classic comedy. "Moonlight and musicals are practically synonymous," Glaudini said. "Our AVO musicals have historically been hugely popular with audiences, so I want to deliver what our patrons look to Moonlight for and that is professionally produced musical theatre. The addition of a second musical will fulfill that promise. But we include a non-musical show to keep the season interesting and to be able to offer something for everyone."

Wells Fargo Center for the Arts announced four additional shows to be presented in the newly renovated Ruth Finley Person Theater (50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa) as part of the 2013-14 season. The performances added to the already diverse season include comedian and entertainer George Lopez (December 7), Willie Nelson & Family (December 13), Colin Quinn: Unconstitutional (January 16) and the signature sounds of Chicago (February 11).

The Old Globe revealed promotional photos for The Last Goodbye, a new musical fusing Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with the incendiary songs of the legendary singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley. Conceived and adapted by Michael Kimmel, the rock musical is directed by two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson). Choreography is by Emmy Award nominee Sonya Tayeh ('So You Think You Can Dance'), and orchestrations, music direction and arrangements are by Kris Kukul. The Last Goodbye will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, Sept. 20 - Nov. 3, 2013. Preview performances run Sept. 20 - Oct. 5. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are currently available by subscription only. Single tickets go on sale Sunday, Aug. 18 at 12 noon. Cygnet Theatre, in collaboration with Playwrights Project, is proud to present the second annual Playwrights in Process: New Play Festival. Cygnet Theatre has long been committed to celebrating human stories through the medium of live theatre. Playwrights in Process will present four readings of new plays by Rachael VanWormer, Ross Tedford Kendall, Robert John Ford and Todd Goodlett, each of whom is a Southern California playwright or a writer with strong regional connections. The four winners were selected from 54 submissions from across the country.

The Tempest, the 17th Annual FREE Classics production, opens Friday, August 30 at the Coronado playhouse. Keith Anderson, founder of the Coronado FREE Shakespeare, directs and Mary Anderson produces the show which runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM through September 22.
