Glass Ceiling Breakers 2025 Celebrates its 5th Year with Award Winning Artists and the Beacon Rising Choir! 
The First Festival of Plays and Films By Women Artists

June 6-8, 2025 

Garrison, NY - Theatre Revolution (TR) is proud to host its 5th Annual “Glass Ceiling Breakers” (GCB) short play and film festival June 6th through 8th at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison, NY, featuring works by local, national and international female identifying artists. This festival runs as a three day event with 24 short films screened and 5 live plays that were selected from hundreds of submissions from around the world. The Festival will close out with a performance by members of the Beacon Rising Choir. More information about the artists, dates and times can be found at www.theatrerevolution.org 

This year’s fest features LOTS of Hudson Valley artists including Carol Bash, Founder and President of Paradox Films and Programmer of the Peekskill Film Festival, Susan Polese GCB playwright alum with a short play turned short film, and Rachel Handler a writer and actor known for her stint as Peg Leg Doris on AMC’s Interview With the Vampire and her award-winning Slamdance films Committed and How Much Am I Worth?

The Women In Show Business Panel returns for its 3rd year featuring powerhouse women filmmakers. Primetime Emmy Award-winning, BAFTA nominated and Peabody nominated filmmaker Annetta Marion joins the fest for her second year as a panelist. Marion says, “The Glass Ceiling Breakers Festival is the hub of an extremely talented and hard-working community of women artists dedicated to the film and theater arts. I’m so very happy to now consider myself a part of it all!” Annetta Marion is known for her work on Oprah’s Master Class, and most recently, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie that she produced and second unit directed. Annetta serves the Directors Guild of America on the National Board (alternate), Eastern Directors Council, and as co-chair of the Focus on Women Committee. 

Marion is joined on the panel by C. Fitz who has earned multiple awards for her work spanning television, documentary feature films, and commercials. Her directing credits include OWN’s award-winning drama Queen Sugar, the first season of HBO Max’s One Perfect Shot, and the acclaimed documentary Jewel’s Catch One, which was distributed by Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY and premiered on Netflix. 

On Friday June 6th at 7:30pm the festival will open with 5 plays written by Hudson Valley female playwrights, Rofa Abayon of Katonah, Jessica W. Bonds of Yonkers, Meghan Covington of Ardsley, Gabrielle Fox of Mount Kisco, and Lori M. Meyers of Nanuet. The evening will end with a moderated talk back with the playwrights. All plays will perform each day of the festival.

Saturday, June 7th the festival kicks into high gear starting with the 1pm-2pm Block 1 of Short Films followed by a Q&A w/ filmmakers, 3pm-4pm a free panel discussion Conversations with Women in Show Business. Block 2 of Short Films runs 4:30pm-5:30pm followed by Q&A w/ filmmakers. The evening program starts with our plays at 7:30pm, followed by Block 3 of Short Films 8:45pm-9:45pm, and then a Q&A w/ filmmakers.

Sunday, June 8th, 2pm-3pm the curtain comes up on the final performances of our plays3:15pm-4:30pm Block 4of Short Films will screen with Q&A w/ filmmakers followed immediately by a reception and Awardsannouncements as well as a performance by members of the Beacon Rising Choir. After the festival TR will announce which films will be given an encore screening at the Best of the Fest at the Bedford Playhouse on September 18, 2025.

About the Playwrights:

Rofa Abayon - The Unwanted - Rofa Abayon is an actor and playwright based in New York. Throughout her journey with the Howard Meyer Acting Program Summer Workshop, she has acted in and written several plays, and she also created and performed in the 2015 Fall "Writers-in-Performance" program at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center. Since launching her acting career in 2013, Rofa has been part of numerous theater productions, working with groups like Axial Theatre, Westchester Collaborative Theatre, Gojo Clan, and the Aery Festival. 

Jessica W Bonds - Peregrination - Jessica W. Bonds is an actress, playwright, and director passionate about storytelling. She co-wrote and performed in Gladys Day – The Love and Lives and showcased her monologue Kindred in WCT’s That’s Not All She Wrote. Her work includes student workshops, online plays, staged readings, commercials, and films like Invisible Shark and Murder by The Lake. Notable roles include Cornelia Rain Barton in Paule Cuffe In Search of A New Land, Jaques in As You Like It, and Birdie Johnson The Execution of Helen Raye Fowler.

Meghan Covington - The Makeout Session - Meghan Covington is a NY based actor, playwright, and producer. Her most notable acting work has taken place regionally on the stages of The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co, The Shakespeare Theatre, Round House Theatre, Theatre J, Olney Theatre in Washington DC. In NYC she has performed at Theatre for the New City and The Brick. Her plays have been featured by Breath of Fire Theatre Co, Musco Arts Center, The Tank, and River's Edge Theatre Co. Meghan has a BFA in theatre from Virginia Commonwealth University, and she currently serves as the Artistic Director and Board President of River's Edge Theatre Company 

Gabrielle Fox - Artistic Integrity - Gabrielle Fox is an award-winning playwright and filmmaker. Awards include Best Playwright and Production for The Home in PCTF.  She won the 914Inc. Women in Business Award for her work as Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Revolution. She wrote, directed and produced the award-winning short film Father Daughter Dance and wrote and produced the film Welcome to Theatre. Her work has been included in online journals and print anthologies including The Best New Ten Minute Plays 2021 and We/US Monologues for the Gender Minority. She is founder and producer of Glass Ceiling Breakers, the first women’s playwright & film festival in the Hudson Valley. She teaches playwriting at SUNY Westchester. She is a proud member of The Dramatists Guild

Lori M. Myers - A Stand-Up Guy - Lori M. Myers is an award-winning writer, actor, director and playwright whose plays have been staged internationally and across the US and Canada. She is the creator/producer of That's (Not) All She Wrote, a play-within-a-play women's playwright festival presented at Westchester Collaborative Theater and Theater for the New City in NYC. Lori's play Civil Disobedience, a re-imagining of the January 6 insurrection, was performed at Axial Theater, and her play Ruthie Lives Here is included in Best 10-Minute Plays 2025. She is a Dramatists Guild member and an adjunct professor at several colleges in the region.

 

About the Filmmakers:

This year’s film portion of the festival includes films both locally and globally with artists from the Hudson Valley, across the US, China, France, Belgium and the Philippines. Films are both comedic and dramatic and cover a variety of topics ranging from relationships to magical encounters, the challenges of parenthood, and the existential questions of life.
