This play focuses on what he hidden bi-sexual affairs between Frida Kahlo and her long list of famous female lovers. They include Mariachi singer Chavela Vargas, Mexican film star Maria Felix, cabaret singer and dancer Josephine Baker and Tina Modotti who was a famous model and photographer. It also addresses and in depth look at her relationships with her husband Diego and the ghosts of Leon Trotsky and seemingly the mysterious cover up of her suspicious death. The play portrays an intriguing look into the last week of her fearless and spirited life. Peeling away the secret cover up and reveal what or who killed Frida Kahlo.

GARBO'S CUBAN LOVER Opens at Casa 0101 Theatre In February

Macha Theatre/Films will present the critically acclaimed play Garbo's Cuban Lover at Casa 0101 Theatre from February 10 - 25, 2023. Opening night weekend Red Carpet will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023 with a reception following the performance. The new mounting will be a “reimagined production” of the show, with more music, dance and multimedia.

Actress/director.producer Odalys Nanin presented her award-winning Frida: Stroke of Passion at Casa 0101 in February of this year to great acclaim. The play bowed originally in 2017 at the Macha Theatre and ran for 3 months. The Casa 0101 engagement was made possible by a grant from the Eastside Arts Initiative. Kahlo wrote the play and directs, produces and stars in it as Frida Kahlo. She will have a fundraiser in August and September so she and her team can continue their programming in 2020 and hopefully acquire a new space. In our interview she talks about her success and points to the difficulty in mounting good theatre in Los Angeles. How did your run of Frida go at Casa 101?
