Artists Rep to Launch FLASH READS, 1/27-28

FLASH READS is a new program at Artists Rep born of the desire to open the theatre and provide a platform for playwrights, companies and artists closely associated with Artists Rep to informally share new scripts with the public. FLASH READS are scheduled on relatively short notice and are presented simply, with just a few hours of rehearsal. The readings provide an opportunity to hear a new work, with the entire focus on the actor and the text. A post-play discussion, moderated by a dramaturg, will follow each and every Flash Reading.

Back for a third season of all new works, 4x4=Musicals has realized that producing musicals on a tiny four foot platform had become too easy. So this year, they all need to DANCE! Seven brand new musicals will twirl and leap as well as sing. Pirates, Sheep, Mad Cattle, Claustrophobics and more come together to prove once again that less is more.

OSF Receives $7,000 Grant

The Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) has awarded a $7,000 grant to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's (OSF) Cultural Connections program to support the development of Community Conversations, part of OSF's new engagement model with Latino communities in Portland and the Rogue Valley. Community Conversations is one of 26 arts-based projects in Oregon to receive a 2014 Arts Build Communities grant from the OAC.

Wendy has been on Portland stages since the mid-1970s, and was the first supporting actress recognized by the Drammy Award Committee (known then as the Willie Awards) in 1979! She is best known for her 1982 musical, Soph! The Last of the Red Hot Mamas, a show she performed here and toured throughout the west coast with a two year stint in Los Angeles. In 1992 Wendy returned to the Portland stage with her one-woman show, Recovering from Myself(ves).

Inukshuk Production Company and the Portland Q Center have announced their joint entry for the 2014 Fertile Ground Festival: Tennessee in Key West, an original play by Robert Lee Gaynor; directed by Marybeth Bielawski-DeLeo. In this fictional piece inspired by the life of Tennessee Williams, a young reporter travels to Key West to interview the illustrious playwright, and soon realizes he is in over his head when the playwright imposes unusual requirements in exchange for answers to questions.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival Receives 'World of Work' Grant to Support Expansion of PEEPS

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Professional Education and Experience Program for Students (PEEPS) is one of eight "Connecting Students to the World of Work" projects to receive funds from the Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) to help introduce underserved Oregon students to arts-related industries. The $26,000 World of Work Grant will support an expansion of PEEPS-OSF's on-the-job program for Rogue Valley high school students-to include formal skills instruction, more students, travel stipends, and more OSF company members as mentors.
