Arizona Citizens for the Arts Recognizes 53 Arizona Legislative Arts Heroes in 2013

The 53 Arizona legislators from districts across the state who voted to restore funding to the Arizona Commission on the Arts and Arizona State Parks have been named 2013 Arizona Legislative Arts Heroes by Arizona Citizens for the Arts, a statewide arts advocacy organization.

Prescott Center for the Arts will present PROMISES, PROMISES, featuring music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David, book by Neil Simon, based on the screenplay The Apartment by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond, and directed by Jon Meyer. The production runs September 26, 27, 28, October 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 & 12, 2013 at 7:30, and September 29 & October 6, 2013 at 2:00. Tickets are $22.00 for evening and $18.00 for matinee.

This very unusual tale begins when a stripper on the run comes between an agoraphobic woman and her toll-collector husband. The couple's neighbors then team up to save the marriage in a show about '80's nostalgia, spray cheese, road kill, adultery, hysterical pregnancy, a broken electric chair, kleptomania, strippers, flan and disco…everything a musical should be!

The dynamic and heavenly vocals from one of the best-loved vocal duos in Arizona, Earl and Alexis Hazell accompanied by the incomparable Mack Frampton on piano. The Hazells, from Phoenix, have delighted PCA audiences before. Mr. Frampton is an award-winning pianist, (Long Beach [CA] International Piano Competition, Van Cliburn International Piano Competition) who last appeared in Prescott ten years ago at YCPAC - Oh, Henry! (Mancini), performing over 4000 concerts worldwide. The Gershwins themselves would smile all through this melodic menagerie of some of the worlds' greatest songs.

Arizona native Shaun Michael McNamara has returned with his All Puppet Players--bringing with him his edgy, irreverent, and wildly entertaining cast of characters, geared toward the more mature theatre-goer. Felt will fly as McNamara and his in-your-face furries team up with Theater Works in Peoria, Nearly Naked Theatre in Phoenix, and Mesa Encore Theatre in Mesa.

Among the highlights will be concerts with the retro-hip, multilingual 'little orchestra' Pink Martini on Jan. 21 and Grammy Award-winning singer Aaron Neville onMarch 22; actor Denis O'Hare (HBO's True Blood) performing An Iliad, a one-man show based on Homer's epic about the Trojan War, on April 3-4; and a night of irreverent stand-up with actor and comedian Mario Cantone (Sex and the City) on May 10.
