The Community College of Baltimore County will present its annual Murthy/Reihl Global Education Leadership Lecture from 11:10 a.m. to 12:35 p.m., Thursday, March 16, in the Center for the Arts Lounge at CCBC Catonsville, 800 S. Rolling Road. This lecture is free and open to the public. No reservations or tickets are required.

This lecture series was established through support from Sheela Murthy and the MurthyNAYAK Foundation to allow CCBC students to develop their understanding of global perspectives and expand our student's access to community leaders while providing them the knowledge and skills needed to become global citizens.

This year's guest speaker is Roya Khadjavi-Heidari, an independent curator, collector and cultural producer and art philanthropist. Her organization, Roya Khadjavi Projects, largely focuses on the art of young Iranian artists, both in Iran and beyond borders, who face social and economic challenges.

Ms. Khadjavi-Heidari is a strong proponent of promoting understanding and peace through artistic exchange. Her most recent art shows in 2016 and 2017 highlighted works that presented images of the isolation and economic sanctions faced in Cuba and Iran and vibrant graffiti artist, Shamsia Hassani's work. During her presentation, Ms. Khadjavi-Heidari will share the work of thriving artistic communities from beyond American borders.
A graduate of Wellesley College, Ms. Khadjavi-Heidari is the former vice president of sales and marketing for Yves Saint Laurent Ready-to-Wear in North America. She has been the recipient of several prestigious awards for her work, including being named as a chevalier in the Ordres des Palmes Académiques by the Republic of France in 2008 for her service to the French culture. In September 2016 she was featured in Harper's Bazaar Art Arabia magazine for her contributions to the art community.
